The problem is what do the Islanders have of value to trade? UFA season is always a challenge and especially this year. - ses111
Farm system.
OTTO KOIVULA, ARNAUD DURANDEAU, WILLIAM DUFOUR, RUSLAN ISKHAKOV, MATTHEW MAGGIO, CALLE ODELIUS, BODE WILDE, ALEX JEFFERIES, CAMERON BERG....
Not very appealing... |

Not in terms of brining back an impact player. Hopefully some of them can have some impact with the Islanders. Iskhakov seems to have the speed and skill the Islanders need. His size could be an issue though. Dufour has the size, but his skating could be an issue. Maggio could be interesting. Still very much an unknown at this point.

My original prediction was the Cats in 5. After watching Vegas play the opener. I may have to rethink my position. Either it would be a good series to watch. - Nfdbulldawg
Yeah on paper and previous series stats and numbers usually skew what people think will happen in an upcoming series. That’s why I always say, “That’s why they play the games/series”. I do think The Cats longer layoff may have hurt them in game one. Let’s see what game two brings.
As You, I too hope it will be a fun series to watch. |

Since when have Islander offseasons not been quiet? Would be nice for the Islanders to win the offseason for once. |

Already made over $5M and was a star for the Bruins. He's going to cost money, especially because he's one of only a small number of better UFA's in a weak year. Those players will have some leverage this offseason for sure. I like him, but not sure the Isles will be able to afford him.
I don't think we see a ton of changes in the offseason |

I'd rather they won the season (i.e., the Cup).

No question John, but having a good offseason gives you a chance at the Cup. |

There isn't much cap room after they sign Varlamov and figure out what to do with what is likely to be an opening at Mayfield's spot. They don't really have much flexibility to move anyone with significant salary and most moves will be done with Sorokin's deal in mind because. If not, then adding players is pointless anyway because losing Sorokin would effectively signal a rebuild, whether intentional or not. |

I agree chief. Does not make things easier to accept regarding another most likely slow Islander offseason. I know Covid and the Cap not going up has been tough, but the Islanders and other teams still made some bad contract moves. |

Nothing is impossible, but I don't think it'll be easy to clear the kind of space needed to do anything significant.
Moving Bailey would be a big help, but I'm not sure how simple that will be since it's getting tougher to include assets to entice someone to take him. They only have their own draft picks, minus the 1st and 3rd, this year and no 3rd next year either.
Not out of the question that Lou pulls a rabbit out of his hat and makes something happen, but I don't see it as likely and, if it were to happen, it might mean losing a player that fans absolutely hate to lose.
I'm not in any way implying I think it'll happen, but it is somewhat odd to me that Barzal's new deal has no trade protection in year 1. |

I doubt very much it happens, but if the deal makes sense to the team then Barzal can be traded. Would be very interesting to see the return. The team does have a lot of centers. I'm just not sure about brining Lou back, but it seems it's a done deal. |

Lamoriello himself has called a press conference for tomorrow afternoon and there's speculation that head coach Lane Lambert could be on the chopping block. |

Would be very odd as Lou is the one who picked Lane. Lou made the Bo move and then Barzal got hurt and was rusty when the playoffs started. Lane may not be the long-term answer, but getting one year would be rough and especially when the roster is not that strong. |

Lou is the GM. Who else would have picked Lane? Also, historically, Lou's coaches have always had a short leash. Lou's Devils won 3 Stanley Cups over 8 years.......each Cup was won with a different head coach.
I agree with you though that Lambert did well just to get the team into the playoffs, considering Barzal's injury, etc. I would give him another season at least.

If Lane is gone I feel like Lou already has his replacement lined up. |

No question Lou's coaches seem to have a short leash. I just meant Lou could have hired someone else and he chose Lane. I do think Lane should get another season.

It's very possible and maybe another coach can do better. I'm just not sure how much better if the Cap will prevent the Islanders from making bigger roster moves.

Could be Lou also announcing his future plans with the team and who the successor will be? |
