Flagged this by accident
I mean if he wants $10M+ per year...that's a real tough ask. I don't really know where my comfort zone lies with him.
History kinda shows that paying a goaltender major money like that rarely works out. Tampa did it but they a) have the benefit of no state tax and b) used the (frank) out of the LTIR loophole. And they also had some elite offensive and defensive talent that they were able to sign to, for the most part, below-market deals - eichiefs9
I think it’s interesting to note the teams that over spent for star power are finding themselves too top heavy. What’s winning in todays NHL is team structure. Sure Matthew’s et al sell jerseys but if we’re being honest, if they really wanted to win, they’d take a little less to spread it around to win. With the cap where it is, taking 10-13 million hurts the team overall and their ability to bring in other needs. |

JT was a shiny toy but he was not needed with the Leafs especially in a hard Cap world.

Their need was defense and a top tier goalie. After already procuring a roster with talents up front like Matthew’s, Marner and Nylander, they then bring in Tavares, and give him the C. Head scratcher as they then brought in a true captain in O’Reilly and are now over done up front. Seems like the teams that spend like that are always relying too heavily on those specific players. You need the right team….not just overpaid star power. |

Islanders need more speed and skill, but they need balance and being top heavy like the Leafs is not the answer.

The Canes players have really figured out that if there's anything marginal, you flop like a fish. The refs are calling tight games these playoffs and they've taken advantage of it. |

Your Cats picked their game up a notch in the second.
Didn’t like either cross check penalty called on either team. |

The physical Cats will wear done the Canes as long as they can stay out of the box.

Canes tie it on the PP. what a great goal.
Edit: Canes dominated the third. |

Really think Florida got (frank)ed in this game. Hopefully, the puck don’t lie. |

I made the mistake of staying up for the entire game. Then woke up at 5:15am. I'm not sure if any of this is real right now |

I honestly would say its even money on this series. I felt that the Panthers were bound to shock folks these playoffs because I thought they massively underachieved in the regular season. To me, the Canes are the 2021 Islanders. Brilliantly composed and disciplined, but Florida has so much sandpaper to their game. Should be a great series. |

Agreed. The Isles had grit but maybe not enough skill; the Devils had the skill but maybe not enough grit. Florida has a pretty good mix of both so it's definitely a tough test for Carolina. But, as we saw with the Isles' runs under Trotz, a solid system executed to near perfection is really tough to beat, so, yeah, even money sounds about right. |

It'll be interesting to see where he lands (I know he said he wants to take time off, but...yeah, we'll see) and how he does. I feel like he was neither as brilliant as his biggest fans insisted nor as incompetent as his biggest detractors accused him of being. So, I wonder what he'd do (or fail to do) with a fresh start somewhere outside the Toronto circus. |

Agree.
You definitely said that about the Cats. That’s why I call them Keaner’s Cats.
Definitely will be a grind. Gretzky said that Fl was missing DuClaire during the year and gelled at the right time as a team.
I watched the whole game last night as well.
I wanted to go to sleep but couldn’t.
Gotta live PO hockey. |

Rod has them dialed in and buying into the system. That’s what wins typically.
Unfortunately for the Isles Tampa learned it as well |

Does Toronto realize Snow is available?
He would be a great Ringmaster of that 3 ring circus! |

Then show up out of no where for a press conference dressed like he’s doing his best Bill Murray from Caddyshack impersonation. |
