Marner needs to go.

Schenn and Acciari were two of our best players all playoffs. They serve their roles. Gamers couldn’t game, haven’t been able to game, time to dump one. It’s Marner.

- iTOLDu

What exactly did Accairi do?

Schenn was good. But he’s getting old, and slower. His toughness didn’t deter any shananigans.

Trade Marner, fine. But I don’t think he’s the problem. The team is too soft. Marner and Matthews need to be surrounded by tougher players.

So do we keep the wussy who never shows up for the playoffs, constantly turns it over and cannot play when things are tight and cost 4 million more per year. Cannot wait to see his next contract demands.

Or the wussy who consistently drives play and does show up for the playoffs.

I wonder if Marner is the worse defensive player to ever be nominated for the Selke

I’m sincerely curious to see how this plays out.

I’m guessing Shanny is going to want a different roster style approach one way or another.

I am too. Not only on the coaching front but in general. As soon as the puck went in I was like ooooh boy where do you go from here.

I'd like to think that they are well positioned for next year cap wise, but it's clear a significant change is required and it's never going to be as easy as dump Marner dump Willy dump auston, as people want to suggest.

Figuring out which one to trade and what that deal should look like is a nightmare. And who's driving the bus in that nightmare, and are they going to do the obvious and get a new coach.

Except for Tavares, they are all young players with plenty of years left.

You cannot afford to lose them for nothing though, so what do you do if you can't agree to a new contract this summer? Run it one last time and possibly see them leave as a ufa?

That's crazy.

- Scabeh

"If you have time. Use it." I don't see why those decisions need to be made right now. I said they can trade someone, I'd prefer just one. If it's Matthews then it's Matthews. But I mean who plays center? JT and Kerfoot?

Matthews has a full NMC next year and Nylander has a modified NTC (submits 10 teams) won't be so easy to trade these guys and get a good return. If that's what management wants. Poor contracts to give those no m trade clauses

If thats your definition of blowing it up then sure. I just dont want to see them all traded into a rebuild.
- Aaron_85

I think one of the core 4 forwards needs to be traded for a true #1 defenceman to spread the “wealth” across the lineup.

Well, it’s going to be very difficult keeping these 4 together and they haven’t been able to dominate when they have been together.

So what to do?

Nylander likely won’t re-sign. AM34 might decide it’s time to head south.

Keefe probably gets the ax and possibly Dubas.

That is some significant upheaval. I’d call that “blowing it up” but not necessarily going nuclear and trading every star.

Leafs are truly in a very weird spot with a lot of contracts close to expiring into UFA. They need to make some very long term decisions soon.

Will be very interesting seeing which direction this team wants to go for the next number of years.

poop read this again. Knowing Acciari leads the playoffs in hits and played through a lot of pain.

Literally led the playoffs in hits for a team that was labelled weak. 🤔

Well the easy decisions are Woll and Knies should be on the roster barring any real bad training camp for either.

I still like my idea of Murray/Woll as 1 and 2. Murray either gets hurt a bunch and Woll gets playing time or Murray stays super healthy and they still only play him 40 - 50 games to keep rest and Woll gets reps in anyway. That's where I start.

Wow, hits.

Bumping into someone doesn’t change the outcome of a series.

Gudas rocking Kampf. That’s what the Leafs need.

Willy got the game tying goal in game 5 and that is worth nothing apparently, why does Marners flub from the blueline that happened to hold up as the game winner absolve him from a full series of (frank) up's

Matthews is the easiest big move with a sweet return… Marner not so much, but I also see Marner as an effective setup guy with the right linemates so keeping him doesn’t bug me as much.

Matthews is going to be an overpriced sniper, effective as hell, but not the guy to build a team around. Get him moved.

Well the front office is one thing and we knew it was ending with contracts ending. I am talking the roster specifically. Not the office.

Also why does everyone seem to think core players wont resign in Toronto but they seem to resign in most other cities? Why won't Nylander resign?

Agree agree agree

And tbh I think it’s Matthews who should go. A ten million dollar guy who can’t even bury it once in 5 games isn’t truly a ten million dollar guy

I think you overvalue Matthews being American and Marner being Canadian.

There's no way the Leafs should lose to that sad outfit.

Except for the curse of course.

- Leaffrog

Is that what the Bruins said?

Give due where it is as Panthers had better goaltending and were more physical and defensively sound.

These are the areas that can be improved if the Leafs want playoff success. Probable cost one of the four. Mathews makes most sense.
