Trade Marner for Brady Tkachuk. - HenryHockey
Lol Ottawa would never do this.
Brady would be a beast in the playoffs. |

I give Newlander a star 🌟 rest of the fab 4 were underwhelming. |

I’m sincerely curious to see how this plays out.
I’m guessing Shanny is going to want a different roster style approach one way or another. - Dozzer
Shanny could be done. |

Nylander went what, 8 games without a goal, 5 games without a point?
He did (frank) all first round. |

What exactly did Accairi do?
Schenn was good. But he’s getting old, and slower. His toughness didn’t deter any shananigans.
Trade Marner, fine. But I don’t think he’s the problem. The team is too soft. Marner and Matthews need to be surrounded by tougher players. - Arctic_AARDVARK
I’m sorry, but in the same response you attack two of the leafs toughest players this round, and then attack the leafs for bing soft. |

Marner needs to go.
Schenn and Acciari were two of our best players all playoffs. They serve their roles. Gamers couldn’t game, haven’t been able to game, time to dump one. It’s Marner. - iTOLDu
I think 2 of the Core 4 have to go.. I think it is Marner that needs to go, Let Bunting walk.Figure out a way to dump Murray, Sign Schenn and Accari . Great regular season but he was terrible for 90% of these playoffs.. Gives the Leafs $20 mil or so to fill holes

Well the front office is one thing and we knew it was ending with contracts ending. I am talking the roster specifically. Not the office.
Also why does everyone seem to think core players wont resign in Toronto but they seem to resign in most other cities? Why won't Nylander resign? - Aaron_85
I’m honestly having a reason.
After the leafs showed up for game 3 in Florida it became obvious that they still got way more media attention, even over the home team. Matthews saw this and realized his life would be far better if he wasn’t in Toronto. Same money but far more privacy while living in a place like Florida.
As a 18-20 year old Toronto seemed AWESOME… but now it’s seeming like he is constantly on stage with no personal life. I don’t think it’s an injury with him, I sincerely believe he stopped caring and wants a more private life. Don’t forget the leafs aren’t his favourite team nor does he give a rats ass about Canada. If he did he’d have his pay paid so he was taxed in Canada and not via bonuses that are under Arizona’s taxation. |

Matthews is the easiest big move with a sweet return… Marner not so much, but I also see Marner as an effective setup guy with the right linemates so keeping him doesn’t bug me as much.
Matthews is going to be an overpriced sniper, effective as hell, but not the guy to build a team around. Get him moved. - Dozzer
Matthews is a point getter, you keep him, all day. What the Leafs lacked was the thirst from veterans looking for a cup.
As useless as the Staal brothers are today, as far as points, they contribute by providing the thirst.
What’s the other explanations for Florida dismissing the storied Bruins and the best Leafs team in over 20 years? |

Yeah I disagree. I will get to say told you so when he signs another 5 year deal
The bonus is also a lockout protection clause. There isn't a lockout during the off season so all bonuses get paid. The salary during the season gets "cancelled" should there be a lockout |

My condolences on the loss. Leafs battled that game and drove most of the play.
I guess, like the Bruins, Leafs have some important decisions to make this off-season. |

I think you overvalue Matthews being American and Marner being Canadian. - Aaron_85
Toronto is Marner’s favourite team unlike Matthews.
And you can’t use the prototypical “American players play anywhere” argument because Matthews can go wherever the hell he wants unlike the others. |

I disagree. Not only is Matthews the guy to build a team around but he's one of the top 5 players in the world to build a team around.
He just won the rocket two years in a row and was the most valuable player in the league, his one down year he was wearing a brace on his hand in the handshake line.
We move him and we will not get another player like him.
But therein lies the problem with the leafs. You can make a compelling argument to never trade each one of the big guys, and if you want to shake the team up one of thems got to go. |

If so it makes me think he’ll be given the chance to change the tone, basically prove he’s on his boss’s side and note his hire’s |

I attacked who?
You think Schenn and Acciari playing 82 games next season is a formula for team success? They’re just okay. I wouldn’t care if they kept, or moved either. Neither are moving the needle. |

With all due respect, this is a fresh spin with a new perspective on an argument you've been having for years now. Just different variations of the same spin.
Runway to figuring out if you're right or not is closing, will be interesting to see where it lands. |

And to this argument I've always said, if that was the case why was marner the one to fleece them for every penny. 🤔 |
