Nah Rielly was fantastic in the playoffs. - Santo_44
Yup agreed. Just a rough start to regular season and it carried through year - he’s a good top pairing dman I personally just feel they need someone to play with him up there in the lineup…though Schenn deserve a boatload of praise for how he handled the top pair duties with Reilly |

Dubas has screwed this team. The team has never performed in the playoffs and he keeps doing nothing. On top of that he has given them all ridiculous contracts before they showed they could perform in the playoffs, and, no movement clauses! What idiot does that! Matthews needs to be signed or traded before his no trade kicks in!! Marner has always gone soft and folded in the playoffs. You can’t pay someone over $11mil and have them not show up in the playoffs! He needs to go before his no trade kicks in this summer. Getting rid of Nylander is NOT the answer. Shoor he may be traded but you can’t just trade Nylander and say, bam, there we fixed it. Dubas has dumped good prospects and picks and got nothing for it in the end. He has screwed this team for years to come. |

Dubas won’t sign a one year extension. I think there’s a good chance he ends up in Pittsburgh. They might offer more autonomy. - Canada Cup
I would bet money CGY and PIT would at least interview Dubas if he were available. He is exactly the type of candidate FSG would consider for both GM and President. |

I could see Willy being traded to the Blues for that 10th overall pick + a good prospect. - Santo_44
Absolutely 0 chance Blues go for this, for a ton of different reasons. Nylander is a 1 -year rental, that's a massive overpay for a single year of a guy. Blues are not going to be contenders next year. Blues don't have the cap space, for next year or to keep him beyond it.. Blues biggest concern is fixing their defense, not their offense. |

Now dude....that's a little harsh.
I mean, weren't they at least a little screwed BEFORE he came along???
Dubas's biggest flaw is slow to change and bull-headed about his "Core 4" and his skill over grit philosophy.
But, he did come around a little this year. He picked up deadline grit and charactor guys like O'Reilly, Accariri and Lafferty. He never would have added depth grit guys like that 2-3 years ago. That said, doubt he moves any of his "babies". Mitch, Austin, Johnny and Willy are likely here as long as Dubas is.
I say Dubas stays, Keeps core in place ...and as previous, will tinker with the fringe guys. 5-6 out.....a new 5-6 in.

What did McDavid and Drai do to deserve their contracts? Pasta is at 11 million and hasn't done poop. Panarin, Bobrovsky, Price...so many players who got paid their "worth" prior to playoff success. Doesn't matter Bob won 2 x vezina because you're only valuing the playoffs and he's done nothing up until last night.

Sucks. Just sucks.
My 2 cents...
Glad we got out of the 1st round. I enjoyed that. Hated the half assed effort on a few games of the 1st and then hated even more that they proudly seemed to carry that into the 2nd round. (frank) all the way off with that.
My thoughts:
Dubas STAY on the condition that Keefe is OUT and that he must re-sign Schenn, RoR, Acciari and Lafferty...AND gets a Matthews deal done or trade this summer before he walks next year. (You just have to trade him if he won't sign this summer since you can't get rid of JT.)
Marner OUT.
Nylander OUT.
Brodie OUT.
RoR STAY.
Acciari STAY.
Schenn STAY.
Lafferty STAY.
Sammy STAY.
Gustafson STAY. (haven't seen enough of him but could easily slot in to give GIO a break)
...all other UFAs can walk: Kerfoot, Holl, Simmonds, ZAR, Kampf (Holmberg at 4c unless you can't sign RoR), Jarnkrok
UFAs to look at:
Meier
Bertuzzi
Tyler Motte
Matt Dumba
Garnett Hathaway
Pierre Luc Dubois
*my top picks to round out the roster with edge.
I would love to see this:
PLD, Matthews, Nylander
Knies, Tavares, Bertuzzi
Motte, RoR, Acciari
Lafferty, Holmberg, Hathaway
That's just enough of a tweak to get you some serious push, heart and balls in the forward group. A banger on every line with some talent. One new winger for every line.
D is tough cuz Rielly looked good in the playoffs but his season sucked and then Brodie looked good all season and then sucked in the playoffs. So Brodie choked and must go?
McCabe, Dumba
Rielly, Schenn
Gio, Lily
Gustafson, Timmins
Sammy
Woll
The team was close, just not enough heart in the end. Adding Dumba and keeping Schenn makes the back end solid once you lose Holl and Brodie. Then up front you've got some heart and soul guys that give you that extra edge.
As disappointed as I am with the loss, I don't think the team is that far off. We're stuck with some players I'd like to get rid of but surrounded by different guys could make all the difference in the world.
Let's do a little reset and kick some ass in 23/24! |

Paying for playoff performance is an almost guaranteed way to ruin a team as it will be paying a premium in cap hit to declining players. Chicago never won a single series once they paid Kane and Toews for their playoff success. Same with almost any team that follows that logic. If a front office can't project out good value contracts in advance they have no chance at winning a SC. |

Well I think you answered your own question. Yeah Bob won the Vezena, pretty sure Price carried the Habs to the Stanley cup final, same with Pasta. And seriously, you can’t tell me Drai isn’t earning his $8.5mil. And have you watched any Oiler games?? McDavid works his ass off compared to Matthews.
I don’t expect cups every year. I do expect performance and stepping it up in the playoffs. The Core has shown, many times, that this combination is not capable of that. Seriously. They are never going to get there, because they just don’t have the fight in them. And for me, if Dubas can’t see that, he needs to go. Some people say, oh it’s not Dubas…..he’s not on the ice! No he’s not on the ice, but he put this bunch together and is clearly not capable of identifying players with heart. It’s why Canada has won so many international contests, heart. The only thing these guys fight for is more money on contract day and they didn’t even do that…….daddy fought for it. Leafs need some blue collar players that have talent and there is no budget left for that after the core take their cut. |

Since some are proposing a trade of 88... Let me offer this.
88 for Drew Helleson and unprotected 1st next yr.
or if that doesn't excite anyone.
Willy and Murray for Helleson, LaCombe and top 5 protected 1st next yr. - dozerD10

Leafs should extend Dubas and let him finish what he started but only if he fires Keefe. They definitely need a structure change and Keefe has shown he will not adapt. Matthews should not be offered anymore then the cap hit he already is taking up. If he doesn't sign the Leafs have to trade him, can't let him walk for nothing. One thing is, its going to be OE interesting summer... - Buck Norris
Agreed.
Marner amd matthews not worth a penny more then current cap hit....if that. |

|

Keefe Dubas Shanahan Matthews, Nylander gone -- and you can make a good fresh start.
Just bring Burkie back - at least we'll see some bold moves |

Dude, before I got too shmammered and lost my voice I channeled my inner Mike Patton and did Faith No More for the first time. Actually did good. Also some cutie in an Oilers jersey was hitting on me all night. Nicole, even got her number. She was there with her cousin and I don't want to look like a complete Quagmire. Can't always bang them 1st night. Gotta look somewhat like a gentleman. |
