Fact is Thachuk and Barkov combined for 1 goal between them in 5 games.
So it's not just Matthews and Tavares that hit a dry spell.
Where they beat us was on the secondary scoring and of course the goaltending.
When Bobrovskyt does .962, .920, .917, .946 and .944 and our guys are average or below you are not going to win the series.
Time to go after someone elite in goal, we've had the second best goaltending in every series for the last 7 years except the one we won this year where Vasilevsky crapped the bed.

Reilly is way overpaid for what he brings. Send him out for a PP QB and cap relief.

You have to get off of your hope Island thinking Marner and the other forwards are that valuable. The third liner on panthers, lundell is more
Valuable than Marner. He just happened to play with higher caliber player on his line. The guy is only a 3rd liner elsewhere….seriouslyyyyyy

- dakotamoe

Youre on crack if think a 3rd liner is more valuable than a consistent 95-99pt player.
Any line marner was on he drove up his Teammates points and goals. He has faults for sure.
A 3rd liner? Troll on elsewhere with this garbage

Ur on crack…Nylander did what in playoffs? Just shows what he is worth….a 3rd liner and maybe a bottom tier defense man
- dakotamoe

Now you're saying willie is a 3rd liner as well?
Thats just dumb

Shanahan was hired on April 11, 2014 & is in his 10th year for the Leafs, his Shanaplan has been a fail (unless you love regular season stats), it's time for a clean sweep, President, GM, & Coach, all should be let go, with the new management team deciding on which players stay & which players don't, also selecting prospects in the entry draft, that will work well in their system.

My biggest question is around matthews. Does he want to stay in toronto? Or go back to AZ? its not about $$ for him so is it the desire to play closer to home? his decision determines everything, no?

yes,
but another question could be will the next GM want to build his team around Matthews (with all the $ it will cost) knowing you can't get rid of Tavares and would like to keep ROR.

ROR is OK but one of him or Tavares has to go.

Question for the masses...

Who actually makes management decisions...

I read it's a 3 headed monster of Rogers / Bell and Tanenbaum..is that correct .. and aren't Rogers and Bell competitors ??

Who actually has final say at MLSE ??

Firsts schmirsts. I don't think missing the next couple years is a massive deal, there will be plenty of runway for that to get sorted if their current window closes and plenty of high end talent still around to do it with.

Could also trade Nylander in a deal for a couple firsts, sign a UFA like Bertuzzi to replace him. Then you check both boxes and rebuild the wings entirely. That makes for a pretty significant change.

Marner has a full NMC that kicks in July 1st until he hits UFA too, everyone's too busy looking at Matthews to realize that.

- joel878

With any Marner deal, you are likely going to be losing the best player in the deal by a good measure. As a result, I'd rather recoup some 1sts then receive middling players in return.

Whether you draft with them or flip them. 1sts are valuable assets.

Not saying we have to stack the deck, but would be happy if there were a few more in the cupboard - especially if they are high picks.
