”We came within 1 point of the playoffs”
“We’re nowhere near as good as the team that had 1 more point than us and made the playoffs”
Pick a lane man - sbroads24
We came within one point of the playoffs.
Florida had more talent than your typical 92 point team.
Both are true. |

So the Sabres shouldn’t make the playoffs until they are better than Florida? |

I’m saying that whether the Sabres made the playoffs this year or not, it has nothing to do with personnel moves that eventually get this team where it needs to go and doesn’t discredit the drafting and developing they have done leading up to this point.

Missing the playoffs by a point will never and should never be viewed as some sort of an accomplishment - sbroads24
I have to step in here because you're obnoxious. The accomplishment has never been missing out on the playoffs by 1 point....Its the fact we were so much closer than anyone projected us to be...even with poor goaltending. But haters gonna hate. If you're not excited then find a different team. |

So wait to see if any player on the Sabres can handle the playoffs after the organization goes all in on players they don’t know for sure can compete in the playoffs?
Toronto drafted:
Mathews
Marner
Nylander
Reilly
And can’t push through, I don’t follow your logic at all. |

You expect the team that over accomplished for one season to consistently compete at that level or higher next season?

Everyone is excited for the future. We all have been for 12 years. Some of us no longer get off on looking at prospect rankings, sorry |

The Leafs inability to round out their depth with drafted players was their Achilles heel along with not solving the goaltending position.
If you can find the Kulich, Rosens, Savoie’s sitting in the Leafs organization let me know.
Hopefully Devon Levi can solve the goaltending position.
The two guys the Leafs did hit on they traded one at the deadline (Sandin) and sat the other for the majority of the playoffs so Justin Holl can stink up the joint (Tim liljegren).
Matthew Knies looks like a player for them but what else ?
Heck they traded Seth Jarvis to Carolina to clear Patty Marleau’s contract.
The Sabres have depth and salary cap flexibility for days. Those are both huge assets right now.

Also didn’t we hear this last season how they can’t make a trade because they don’t really have the space to add because of Dahlin and Power and Mittlestadt extensions?
It’s all over the place. |

We have absolutely no idea what these players will be.
This is what’s getting annoying. What exactly are we celebrating right now?
This idea thaf we’re just about to start dominating the league soon is so premature |

So your approach is cooking in 3 unproven players, will get the Sabres core, that hasn’t succeeded…over the hump.
And a goalie who played 7 NHL games.
No wonder Terry loves the fan bases in Buffalo, free money. |

There’s people turning their nose up at Connor freaking Hellebyuck, who’s been a top 3-5 goalie for 5-6 years now because Devon Levi was good for 5/7 games.
They don’t actually want any expectations of winning. They just want to be able to say there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow |

Why did Dubas and Leafs part ways?
In what we assume was Dubas’ final press conference as Leafs GM, he was open about the serious emotional toll this past year had on him and his family. Elliotte Friedman, who first broke the news, would later report that Dubas told MLSE any decision on his future would only come after a lengthy conversation with his family. It feels fair to assume then that — at least in some part — the toll of the position and season led to Dubas not renewing his contract with the Leafs.

I still can't tell who made the decision, or if it was mutual. |

Curious if Dubas ends up with the Pens. Bunch of fans around here want him as the POHO. |

“Brendan Shanahan admits that there was a shift in his thinking after watching Kyle Dubas’s media conference last Monday. Prior to that, the two were working on an extension.” |

Heard some clips from his press conference. Did not sound like he'd even look into other jobs. Seemed completely burnt out.

No, I’ll stick with being a fan of this team, but continue to point out how laughable it is that people write articles that Kevin Adams is revolutionizing the sport when he hasn’t accomplished anything yet - ImThatGuy
I'm not sure why this is such a divisive take here. Adams has been fine but the team is still bad. Like they aren't in the playoffs and half the teams make it, so that's bad. That's just the facts.
Did they do better than some people expected? Sure. Do they have prospects and cap space and potential for the next few years? Sure. But potential doesn't get you anything. The Leafs had the potential to win multiple cups with this core and didn't do it so they cut their guy. The Sabres potential and how well they reach it moving forward will determine if Adams is looked at fondly or not. Anyone giving him all the praise or all the hate now is being too quick to the draw. Let's play the games first and see what they do.
Anything lower than top 3 in the division next year is below expectations. |

Dubas heavily implied that the job had taken a toll on him and I think they just released him because they both knew he didn't want to come back, or his heart wasn't totally in it.
Point is, I highly doubt Dubas was "fired". Dubas was just clearly not all in anymore. Gotta move on at that point. And I think Dubas was more than happy to say ok.

Sabres prospect Noah Ostlund connected to Växjö of the Swedish Hockey League.
Ostlund has been around the Rochester Americans the past few weeks. Told me Wednesday morning that he was still unsure where he’s playing next season. |

Depends on your feelings on development. Think I'd prefer him in Roch next year, but don't think it's a big deal.
If he wasn't already signed, it might have worried me. |

How Dubas was let go was the most Canadian way to let a guy go, this too me felt expected.
Dubas did look broken during his last press conference, Shanaban needed to distance himself from that behavior.
“Another curveball in the Dubas/Leafs situation: Brendan Shanahan says he got an email from Dubas on Thursday night indicating he wanted to stay on as GM. However, Dubas's agent had also come back requesting a pay bump on the #leafs offer, per BS.
Shanahan then fired Dubas.”
