So your approach is cooking in 3 unproven players, will get the Sabres core, that hasn’t succeeded…over the hump.
And a goalie who played 7 NHL games.
No wonder Terry loves the fan bases in Buffalo, free money. - washedup20
Not immediately, over time though yes.
I can’t see why Kulich can’t crack the Sabres roster next year if he has a good camp |

I admire your optimism but I do not share it. Heading into next year with a Levi/UPL tandem would be extremely risky for a team that is essentially ready to win now with a few strategic tweaks - Hank Balling
You will see Hanky. You will see.
Whether you see it in a Sabres jersey does seem to be a big question though I will admit. |

Process leads to results.
Just like how Jack Quinn had solid underlying statistics from Game 1 but the results didn’t show till later in the year.
Some people need to see the results prior to giving praise.
I see the processes in place and have a damn good feeling the results will follow.

Serious question, what is more valuable:
Trading a 14th and 16th OA or trading 2 prospects 1 and 2 years after drafting them?
Also doesn’t it look bad for an organization that bends over backwards for college prospects to move freshly acquired promising prospects?
Seems like digging yourself into a hole IMO. |

Depends on the prospects, but I would say they're probably worth pretty similar values. That's because they've turned it around though, Rosen was far below his draft capital value until very recently. Ostlund I think will hold value as a decent 2C prospect. The latter you're probably right about. There needs to be a hierarchy or some sort of priority. |

I'm not sure why this is such a divisive take here. Adams has been fine but the team is still bad. Like they aren't in the playoffs and half the teams make it, so that's bad. That's just the facts.
Did they do better than some people expected? Sure. Do they have prospects and cap space and potential for the next few years? Sure. But potential doesn't get you anything. The Leafs had the potential to win multiple cups with this core and didn't do it so they cut their guy. The Sabres potential and how well they reach it moving forward will determine if Adams is looked at fondly or not. Anyone giving him all the praise or all the hate now is being too quick to the draw. Let's play the games first and see what they do.
Anything lower than top 3 in the division next year is below expectations. - Zschalberg

I'll still celebrate the little steps towards the ultimate goal, getting better is still a good thing. But I won't crown anyone until they actually do what they need to do. |

I don't think you'll see them bending over backwards anymore. Levi should be the last of that hopefully. Players like Johnson you want to sign but you aren't going to avoid doing other things because of it.
I also don't think it's a bad look to trade prospects even when it's been early. Plenty of teams do it and it's just part of the business. If anything it's an easier trade than once they get to the team and start settling in. |

If the Sabres finish with 98-99 points next year (improvement) but miss the playoffs by 1 point. Is that still “good”?
It normally takes right around 98-100 points to get in. |

Imo, making the playoffs is good but if they just squeak in a wild card spot and lose in 5 that's not a good season. That would have been a good season this year. Next year I think they need to either get a top 3 divisional spot and/or win a round for me to say "this was a good year". The expectations are higher than they were at the start of last season and they need to do more to meet them |

Just a question for clarity on this take:
Do you think the Sabres and Leafs are comparables?
Leafs are thought of as cup contenders, even though they choke…but they always make the playoffs.
The Sabres can’t get college kids to sign and haven’t made the playoffs for 12 years.
How do you write off making the playoffs as a bad thing? |

I didn't say making the playoffs was a bad thing, but if the Sabres make the playoffs by a point and get pounded in the 1st round I'm not going to say that's a good season.
Are the Sabres and Leafs comparable? Of course they are. The Leafs expectation is you have the core, you traded assets away to have a deep playoff run and hopefully win the cup. They made it through 1 round which was short of their expectations. The Sabres are a few years behind that but you still need to meet the expectations that you have for your team. The Sabres expectations should be playoffs and winning a round. Do that, good season. Don't do that, bad season. |
