That's cool, seems to me we say that every year and seem to never land one. And you need someone that can be more than a mid pair, especially with Samuelsson and hopefully won't be occurring injury issues. - Buff36
There's a difference between attempting to actually acquire one and doing what Kevo has done, which has been to stand pat with what he has, add a few pieces on the edges. Keep in mind he's made very few player trades that weren't forced or pressured. Asplund, Bjork, Johansson. The Johansson pick became Novikov btw.
He hasn't once attempted to acquire one, nor has he ever been in a position to acquire one, prior to chiquorino. His attempt to snag him sets the stage for how I think he's been spending this offseason. Finding another guy with similar impacts at that position.
Can't believe I didn't put Conner Murphy in the trade target category. |

Didn't you say you wanted cost control on this guy? - Lunaion
Not sure I explained my intentions well, at least from my last post.
My ideal candidate is a guy like Conner Murphy. Guy who can play solid mid pair minutes for the next three years. I'd spend more for the right guy. Think Gudas signs a similar 3-4 years so I'd go with him too.
Just enough time to move on if you want and rightfully hand that spot to a guy like Novikov or this/next year's first round defenseman. Right around when the Sabres will start to need impact, cheap players.

“After speaking with a few staff members at MLSE about the apparent rift between Shanahan and Dubas, I was told that it began in the 2021 offseason. Dubas had a deal in place to send a 2021 5th (#153) to Buffalo for Tage Thompson, but it was nixed due to lack of draft capital.”

Makes sense. Need to upgrade in the NHL, depth, and pipeline. Kicked the can last year, can't do it again this summer. |

Based on Kevo's open admission of attempting to acquire the chicken, I can't fathom he sits on his hands again. I expect a reworking of the bottom 6 (obviously not all 6), a top 4 D and a reassessment in goal. The latter is more of a hope.

Thought there was a rumor like this out there, didn’t know it was the leafs. They only had 3 picks that year, so sorta makes sense. |

Hope so. Fact that they all have another year left on their deals (except Clague) complicates things. Was a much easier job last summer.

We can all agree standing pat now is unacceptable, right?
I personally don't think he does. I believe 2 decent moves are coming. But if they don't we can't do the excuses thing anymore |
