He'd be one of the last guys I think they trade. I'd be somewhere between shocked and surprised. - TheSabresTaco
I agree, just saying trade what would be a haul for him, when all it could have taken was are 2nd in the 1st place. |

It’s impossible to have this reassurance beforehand but if I was guaranteed top 10 goaltending for the next 4-5 years like Hellebyuck has been most of his career, I’d give them whatever prospect they wanted.
Sabres can win without Savoie amounting to anything.
They can’t win with UPL/Comrie types playing lots of games - sbroads24
That's similar to Hank's perspective too.
Even though he avoided answering it, he already said he would offer as much as Savoie and the 13th overall pick this season, if necessary. |

Outside of the previous sabers team that’s the norm for about every team though. I watched a lot of away broadcasts this year or ESPN+ (because I think the Sabres broadcast is trash outside of Dan Dunlevey doing play by play)
on several away broadcast they mention about team is going away together this year and/or how close knit of a group they are.
It was talked about here and in Buffalo how the Sabres found this new way of life when really that’s kind of a common thing around the NHL. - ImThatGuy
It wasn't common here. The stories/rumors that have come out since the departure of the previous core is pretty telling.
Good job on management for exorcising that room.

I would love to have Helly but c'mon I highly doubt that happens, I hope i am wrong.
The others I listed are more reasonable targets IMO - hehateme
It doesn't seem like a fit for their vision. I know people have a viewpoint of win at all costs and (frank) levi or whatever, but it's not how they're operating. If he had another year on his contract, I bet they do it.

Yes. Adams also reached out to power and Dahlin to try and get those done asap.
So they can figure out the salary cap situation or get a better picture of it going forward |

No and no team will come close to that deal if he's traded.

I would try to sign him to a 7x$8m deal.
But I would also accept the risk of him as a pure rental.
Mittelstadt, UPL, 2nd (that can become a 1st if they win a round) I highly doubt whatever they end up receiving beats that deal. - Hank Balling
I doubt they are paying Helly 8 large and for 7 years... They arguably have the best goalie prospect under contract, why in the world would they then go sign a starter for 7x8 mil when in all reality all they need is an older (but still good) goalie for 2-3 years to pair with Levi?
I would be all in on Helly if we did not have Levi in the mix.

If the Sabres had a trade in place for say a high end top 4 RD with term and no NTC/NMC, are they making sure “he wants to be here” before they pull the trigger? Said player has 0 control.
If they aren’t making every player is thrilled about Buffalo it’s just an empty platitude - sbroads24
Why would you want to trade for a disruptive player?
Havent you learned anything from the past decade?

If he had 2 years left on his contract, I would do whatever it would take to get him, have him start 50ish games and levi 30ish learning behind a great goaltender. for 2 years by then Levi steps right in.

Levi looks very promising, but until he proves he can handle a full season load. He is nothing more than a super promising Prospect.
It’s been pointed out by several people that most of the very good goalies weren’t real light on to play or take the full starter load until several seasons into their career.
You need to have someone in here that can handle the number one duties and have Levi play 30 games this year 40 games the year after and then take starting capability if he continues to progress.
You can then also trade Helly if it comes to that.
Look at what just happened in Florida for example, Spencer Knight was the most promising prospect in years and now he’s out of the league because of substance-abuse issues you just never know

see my post a few up. I agree. I just don't think signing Helly for long term is going to happen.
