I doubt they are paying Helly 8 large and for 7 years... They arguably have the best goalie prospect under contract, why in the world would they then go sign a starter for 7x8 mil when in all reality all they need is an older (but still good) goalie for 2-3 years to pair with Levi?
I would be all in on Helly if we did not have Levi in the mix. - hehateme
Counterpoint:
Florida drafted Knight in the 1st and then signed Bob to an $80m deal.
I also genuinely believe the Sabres are Hellebuyck and a guy like Connor Murphy away from being legitimate contenders. |

Levi looks very promising, but until he proves he can handle a full season load. He is nothing more than a super promising Prospect.
It’s been pointed out by several people that most of the very good goalies weren’t real light on to play or take the full starter load until several seasons into their career.
You need to have someone in here that can handle the number one duties and have Levi play 30 games this year 40 games the year after and then take starting capability if he continues to progress.
You can then also trade Helly if it comes to that.
Look at what just happened in Florida for example, Spencer Knight was the most promising prospect in years and now he’s out of the league because of substance-abuse issues you just never know - ImThatGuy
Hand him the contract with a M-NTC. Tell him hes our 1A while Levi grows. Let him know he could be traded in 3-5 years but we'll get him to a contender if that does become the case. Can pro-long his career not playing 60+ regular season games anymore.

No doubt my Friend. I guess you can trade for and extend Helly and in 3 years if Levi is pushing for the #1 job you can try to trade Helly away.
I just don't see it happening though.

If he had 2 years left on his contract, I would do whatever it would take to get him, have him start 50ish games and levi 30ish learning behind a great goaltender. for 2 years by then Levi steps right in.
only if....................................... - hehateme
It's why I think they take a shot at Hill, Varly etc. Guys that have a history of providing positive individual goaltending statistics, reasonably healthy.. and free. You can get away with signing them for 2-3 years. Hellebuyck is going to want and deserve his last big contract which my guess is 5 years.

See if he’ll take a major paycheck but for 3 years. Say he wants a 7x8 totaling 56. Offer a 3x10. get him over halfway in less than half the years. Injury risk and all, but betting on himself to still be healthy with an inflated cap in 3 years could still land a favorable 4/5 year deal
*I know this isn’t going to happen, just throwing out scenarios that would possibly be mutually beneficial |

I see that suggested all the time it’s never a realistic scenario because of the guaranteed contracts the NHL has.
If he has an offer of
7x8
You would need to be at
5*11.75 to even get close.
You can’t even get there with 3
You’d have to give 3 x 18 which you can’t do.

He's signing an extension with a team he feels can win. LA is probably strong competition. Ottawa and Buffalo are probably similar, edge may go to Buffalo because we're American. Maybe Detroit swaps Husso with Hellebuyck. Who knows.

1) He’d have to have an offer, which teams cannot do if he’s under contract
2) hadn’t been suggested, nor do I think it’s a realistic possibility unless for some reason he’s always wanted to be a Sabre (I’ll call it highly doubtful)
3) the point with a shorter term would be higher dollars. A 3x10 ((frank) it, let’s call it 3x11) gets him 33 of the 56. Leaving 22 on the table, but keeping 4 years of term. Could he strike something more of 6/6.5 for that other 4 years? That would put him at 24/26 total. If he plays well enough possibly more. Also more money faster is always better
Again it won’t happen, just messing around |

Interesting video discussing the changes in the Panthers play thru this year that has become this insanity we are currently witnessing
https://twitter.com/MikeK...5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=
big clue in there as to why Corsi, expected, and other fancy stat watchers will say things like “they were getting caved in”, when it’s not necessarily true. (But but but didn’t you see the deserve to win o meter!?? OMG!!)
And I won’t mention a “grittier” game here, it seems to confuse some. They will click on probably expecting to see a highlight reel of big hits, cheap shots, or possibly a fight |

Let him see the shots, the shots that you keep more of them to the outside, clear rebounds, don’t allow guys standing all alone in front.
All helps your goalie become Superman.
Leafs wouldn’t do it, and I expect to see Carolina try much more tonight, they gotta get in Bob’s kitchen and screen him, or tip it past him, or be there to slam home a rebound. If he sees it, he’s stopping it right now. Unreal display by BoB.

I was trolling thru some pawn shops the other day and saw an acoustic guitar for sale, autographed by all 5 of them (with certificates). It was pretty sweet looking. |

Your trading for someone who doesnt want to be in buffalo, but your expecting them to keep their mouth shut and play nice?
Havent you learned from the past decade?
Guys that dont want to be here, become a head ache and eventually want out. Look at ror, sam and eichel, montour , so many more.
How great is this fictional player that, we overlook the baggage? |
