Top 10 paid players... Not a single one of them in the final 4.....depth is king, depth rules all...
- MattStrat
While depth is important that graphic is painting an inaccurate narrative with a convenient cutoff at the top 10
Barkov - 10m
Eichel - 10m
Bobrovsky - 10m
Seguin - 9.85m
Benn - 9.5m
Stone - 9.5m
Tkachuck - 9.5m

hahahah very convenient
Benn and Seguin are 5th and 6th in Stars playoff points, so theyre not even playing like the top players. Hintz (1st in Stars playoff scoring) is on last year of 3.1 cap hit...then he goes to 8.125 next season. Robertson (2nd) locked in at 7.75 is good value if he keeps it up. Domi is 3rd in scoring and a UFA. That old dog Pavelski (4th...8 goals in 8 games played) is still giving a lot despite being 38....if only the Pens 38 year old forward was like this...
The other guys on your list are playing like the top paid guys on their clubs. |

The boston bruins were the deepest team without question with just 1 player making over 7 mill. That didn't work out either. It takes depth, goaltending, coaching, straight up luck too.
I will say this though. Having multiple players on that list is troubling. That much high end talent needs to produce. |

I agree that Benn and Seguin are overpaid, and that's gonna be a problem when Hintz goes up next year. But hey, you win now and deal with the fallout later. |

Dubas out from leafs. One thing to say it’s Toronto or nowhere when you’re still employed. Other thing to stick to that when you have no job. We’ll see if he emerges as a candidate for hockey ops. |

Exactly what Fed's said in a text to me. Posturing/leverage at the end of a contract, he said.

That’s exactly what happened with Daryl Morey before my Sixers hired him. He was terminated in Houston and said he’d be out of the league for at least a year. I think he was moving to Philly within the week. |

Yeah... It's been reported that FSG will pay whatever it takes to get the management they want. It's easy to say no until someone makes your dreams come true with a huge contract.

That was prior to their interviews though. They might already have their ideal candidate and waiting for Dubas to make his move, could mean losing out on their guy the just found. It will be interesting to see it play out. |

Lose out how? There aren’t any other GM jobs available. |

Leafs. |

Something very weird happened behind the scenes inbetween Monday when Dubas gave his press conference and today. Either that whole press conference by Dubas was an angle to leverage more money or the Leafs didnt like him not being committed. Everyone said before hand that Dubas would be back in Toronto unless he didnt want to be. That is definitely the vibe I got from his remarks.
What does this mean for the Penguins? I bet FSG takes a swing at him now. Technically Dubas is under contract until 6/30. So like Treliving, their team can block access to them.
I still think a structure of Tulsky as GM and Dubas as President of Hockey Ops is the ideal structure. |

Leafs. - Victoro311
Yeah but they would need to go through their process now. Would think you’d be clear on Dubas being part of the pens plans soon enough to not lose someone to Toronto. |

The Penguins, despite not making the playoffs, perhaps altered the future of the NHL...
By losing to Chicago:
-Chicago was in the right position to win the draft lottery
-Florida could well be on their way to a Stanley Cup
-Boston is asking major questions this offseason
-Toronto's GM situation is a mess
If Penguins beat Chicago
-Bruins likely smoke the Penguins in 4 or 5
-Toronto/Bruins is one hell of a series. Neither team would feel too much of a failure if they lost.
-Either Boston or Toronto have a clear path to win the Stanley Cup
-A team like Anaheim might've won the draft lottery
-Florida is asking some major questions after failing to qualify for the playoffs. |

Hextall could still be here if they made the playoffs too.

If the Pens were to put Tulsky, MacKinnon, and Darche on hold while they try to go after Dubas all three of those guys would be more than happy just to stay put for another year and see what opens up next year.
Isn't Calgary also looking for a GM along with Toronto too? |

This is true. Pens had no chance in the east. I heart wanted them to make the playoffs, but my brain knew it was best they missed just to be sure Hexy would get canned. I can't remember which beat guy said it, but he said Hextall's fate had already been decided whether they made it or not. You never know though....
