She came over to the house and we had a playboy on the table and the cover girl looked nearly identical to her.

It was slightly embarrassing.

Damn...I knew Matthews situation was complicated with his NMC kicking in on July 1st and he can't be signed to a new contract before that. Didn't realize Tavares has a NMC and Marner's NMC also kicks in on July 1st....then Nylander has a NTC with 10 teams he can't be traded to also kicking in on July 1st.

and no GM at the moment

- Symba007

Only 3 picks in the draft so not much work there.

Shanty probably is responsible for Babcock hiring. He’s gotta be on thin ice. Keefe well he did ok but the results say he’s a goner imo.

Busy offseason for big trading if that is what is to come.

That'll really make Toronto an attractive destination for players if they hire a guy who ignored sexual assault against a player and then lied about it. Solid, solid move.
- Zezel

You have a great point there. That is one slippery road to go down & saying that it could easily cause a huge uproar amongst the fanbase. Idk why it is even a possibility tbh. Simply a PR nightmare in a huge & passionate fanbase such as the Leafs.

I’ll make a bold prediction👊

mlse will hire the first “female” gm in the nhl👊🏿

then the team will be (frank)ed for the next 10 years🤦‍♂️

same or worse results🤦🏿‍♂️

mlse revenue will go up moderately and we will still have the corpse 4 BUT; we’ll get another tingle up our legs because we have the 1st of something😍

Hunter won’t trade Marner. The Sens will have to make do with Matthews.

This is stolen from the flyers thread by Bill Meltzer. So credit goes to him. A solid write up of how difficult it is to win:

It's only "sad" if you don't understand hockey history. EVERY SINGLE TEAM experiences long droughts at some point in their history. Even dynasties fall and go long stretches -- as in decades -- without another Cup. It's the way of hockey.

Rangers have one Cup in the last 83 years, the drought since their last one is now at 29 years.

Maple Leafs haven't been back to the Finals -- let alone won the Cup -- since the NHL expanded beyond the Original Six. Drought now at 56 years.

Canucks were created in 1970. Zero Cups in 53 year history.

Sabres were also created in 1970. Zero Cups in their own 53-year history. Currently in a playoff drought of missing the playoffs in 12 straight years (missed playoffs in 14 of the last 16 seasons; zero series wins).

Islanders drought since their 4-Cup Dynasty is now at 40 years.

North Stars/Stars: One Cup since their 1967 creation: 1-for-55. Drought now 24 years (could win this year).

LA Kings: Two Cups since their 1967 creation; 2-for-55. Took til 2012 to win their first. Now 9 years removed from their most recent.

Blues: One Cup since their 1967 creation: 1-for-55. Took til 2019 to win their first. Now four years removed from that season.

Whalers/Hurricanes:One Cup in 43 year history as an NHL franchise. In a 16 year drought at present (but could win this year).

Sharks: Created in 1991. Zero Cups won.

Senators: Created in 1992. Zero Cups won.

Panthers: Created in 1993. Zero Cups won (could win this year).

Ducks: Created in 1993. One Cup won (1-for-30). Current drought at 16 years.

Predators: Created in 1998. Zero Cups won.

Blue Jackets: Created in 2000. Zero Cups won.

Wild: Created in 2000. Zero Cups won.

Capitals: Created in 1974. One Cup won (1-for-49). Took until 2018 to win it. Now five years removed.

Black Hawks/ Blackhawks: Their 2010 Cup ended a 49-year drought. Then they won 3 in 6 years. Now 8 years removed and in complete rebuild mode.

Nordiques/Avalanche: 3 Cups in 43-year history as an NHL franchise. Won their first Cup in 1996, second in 2003. Nineteen-year drought until last season's Cup championship. In a 12-season span from 2006-07 to 2017-18, they missed the playoffs eight times, lost in the first round three times and advanced to the second round once.

Penguins: Created in 1967. Have won five Cups but they've experienced two bankruptcies in their history. It took 24 years to win their first of B2B Cups. Seventeen year gap before the next Cup win -- with a very low period and a second bankruptcy in the 2000s -- in between. Seven-year gap before another B2B Cups. Now six years removed and in need of a rebuild.

Bruins: Six Stanley Cups in 99-year history. One Cup in the last 51 years. Had a 39-year drought before their 2010-11 Cup. Now 12 years removed from that Cup.

Lightning: One Cup (2003-04) in the first 28 years of team history; 16-year gap until their 2nd (first of B2B). In their history, have had stretches of missing the playoffs in nine of 10 seasons (zero series wins) and five of six seasons.

Scouts/Rockies/Devils: Three Cups in combined 49-year franchise history. Took 21 years to win their first (three Cups in eight years). Current drought at 20 years. After reaching Cup Final in 2012, the Devils missed the playoffs in five straight years and 9 of 10 seasons; zero series wins. This year, they won their first playoff series in 11 years but lost in five to Carolina in the second round.

Canadiens: The Habs are the NHL's most decorated franchise but they are now at a 30-year drought since their last Cup (one in the last 35 years).

Red Wings: 11 Cups but had a 42-year drought ended in 1997. Currently, at a 15-year Cup drought. They've missed the playoffs in seven straight years, and have one playoff series win in the last 11 years.

Jets/Coyotes: Entered the NHL in 1979. Zero Cups won in 43-year NHL history.

Thrashers/Jets: Created in 1999. Zero Cups won in 23-year history.

Flames: Created in 1972. One Cup in 51 years. Current drought is 34 years.

Oilers: Entered the NHL in 1979. A five-Cup dynasty from 1984 to 1990. Now in a 33-year drought. Endured a stretch of 10 straight seasons out of the playoffs, missed the playoffs 12 of 13 years with one playoff series win.

The Golden Knights and Kraken are still very young franchises. Vegas could win their first Cup this year. But history shows the Cup is extremely hard to win -- even once -- and even harder to hold onto.

In other words, what the Flyers are going through is the down cycle in history. Also, would it feel any different now if they HAD won in 1987 (either via winning in OT in Game 2 or winning Game 7)? The answer is no. It'd be a 35-year drought.

- Aaron_85

1-for-30 is not as bad as you imply.

With the number of team in NHL, getting more than 1 Cup in 30 years is above average, no?

Not sure any of the teams that are close to that ratio are in any kind of "drought". Or maybe it's just not a great choice of word for this case...

Missing the playoffs many years ina row is a different story since quite a few teams get in...

If you had millions of dollars and wanted to live like a king you can do it much longer and to a much higher degree in SSM vs Peterborough!

SSM has some hockey history too - Marty Turco, The Esposito brothers are all from there (born and raised) and the first time the Great One wore #99 on a jersey was when he played in SSM!

Well that is a matter of opinion. You have proven over the last week that you do not know everything. Your narrative that Dubas was holding out and using his family as a bargaining chip was a huge fail

I heard it was an upper decker, and not in the sink. Hexy could be good at that job because he's no good as a GM.
