Sounds like Dubas played tough on the negotiations and Shanahan wasn't willing to meet those demands. It'll be hilarious if Dubas is hired elsewhere after his "Toronto or nowhere" claims. |
|
|

No surprise here with Dubas. You canāt state that you are unsure whether you want to be the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs or not and top it off with showing the organization that you may not be handling the stress the job takes on you and family very well - and expect that you will keep your role and receive the āasksā you want.
Iām not saying you need to swallow all emotions and be robotic or a ātough guyā but I donāt think it was a good idea or look to show them in public to the media given his role/occupation. It 100% was not a good idea to say that you arenāt even sure you want the job.

maybe that's what Leafs players need after a good few years of having rainbows, sunshine and marshmallows fed to them

I wouldn't have a problem with it if he addressed this with Shanahan BEFORE doing it in the press. That's a complete POS move by Dubas if he didn't give Shanahan any indications of his concerns. Makes it appear as if he was attempting to leverage anything he could against Shanahan. Not sure about their work relationship but IME transparency is a pretty important communication work requirement. |

Ya I have read the leverage theory - I donāt at all think that it was leverage. I just think he has a little Soupy Campbell emotional thing to him.
Iām sorry man I donāt know what IME transparency means?ā¦but maybe ha |

So the Leafs decided they wanted Dubas back, Dubas eventually decided he wanted to be back, and now he's... not back.
its all making sense now |

Well I donāt feel as confident after watching that press conference.
Hopefully shanahan doesnt eff this up because that wasnāt the most convincing of press conferences. |

I guess playing mind games and trying to play mercenary didn't work for Kyle. Like the saying goes: FA&FO.

Shanny just said he did .....Dubas told them on Sunday that he needed time to speak more to his family ....Shanny said he was suprised Dubas put it out there the next day to the public. It was never leverage.
I think, in hindsight, probably stupid in that it forced the narrative and pushed Shanny to think about alternatives ...which he did ...and then determined that he felt better about canning his ass and moving in a new direction.
Wouldn't be surprised if there were some 'expressions of interest' put to Shanny this week.
If Dubas does flip the script and takes a job elsewhere I hope Mrs. Dubas was on board!! "you did what!" "we're moving where?!" |

IME = In My Experience. Based on what Shanahan just said, Dubas never told anyone about not even considering he wasn't going to re-sign. Though again, the real issue is that should 100% not be getting discussed in a press conference. Maybe not for leverage. But at minimum it makes Dubas appear oblivious to his environment. I also find Shanahan a complete liar for claiming all NHL markets have family pressures. Almost no US city would care about any NHL executive or his family at all. |

There is one other factor, after thinking on it: 7 years in the playoffs, won 1 round. Considering the talent on this club, I can understand this. Maybe Austin gets to go back to Arizona, for one more year.

Sounds to me like Shanny started making calls immediately after the Dubas comments and found his guy. My money is on Treliving unless itās true that the flames are refusing to allow it until his contract expires. |

Just such a rash decision when so many things need to be sorted out soon and shanahan chose chaos.
