IME = In My Experience. Based on what Shanahan just said, Dubas never told anyone about not even considering he wasn't going to re-sign. Though again, the real issue is that should 100% not be getting discussed in a press conference. Maybe not for leverage. But at minimum it makes Dubas appear oblivious to his environment. I also find Shanahan a complete liar for claiming all NHL markets have family pressures. Almost no US city would care about any NHL executive or his family at all. - jfkst1
Ya he said in his press as much - wasn’t sure he wanted to be back or if he wanted to put this on family again etc (obviously paraphrasing) the inference was certainly there though |

i do not feel confident at all that the leafs will be better coming out of this. - senstroll
Wait and see who they select as their next GM. It needs to happen soon. Three of the core 4 get no trade clauses on July 1st. The other one already has it. This could turn into a nuclear winter, if they don't get the core dealt with ASAP.

I've never heard a single NHL executive complain about media pressures on himself or the family in any US market. That is very much a uniquely Canadian market issue and Toronto is what I would assume to be the absolutely worst of it.

I guess playing mind games and trying to play mercenary didn't work for Kyle. Like the saying goes: FA&FO. - PrinceLH
the biggest issue facing the incoming GM - whomever it is - will be CAP and contract navigation - and contracts were NOT Dubas' strong suit by any means. It took Dubas three seasons to figure out what type of players he should be adding at the deadline. The Leafs simply can't afford (from a CAP perspective) to continue to pay more and more for the Core as it is currently assembled.
Hire a guy to handle the contracts and another guy to handle the roster moves. Contract discussions come first.

No doubt man. It’s gotta be a tough go but it is what it is you know - comes with the unreal amazing gig of pro sports and in this case hockey in the Mecca so absolutes louder for sure.
I think he did a good job this deadline personally. Hope he lands in a quieter place with less spotlight and stress. I think he will do well |

Just look at this thread and the amount of posts from fans of other teams. And they troll us less than our own fans do. |

Dubas GM of Sens, trades for Marner..wins cup - senstroll
It is more than 2 weeks ago that we first heard Dubas' name in connection to one of the groups bidding to buy the Sens. I don't think Dubas to the Sens works well for the Sens or the Leafs.
Dubas to Calgary makes more sense.

I think he did a pretty good job overall too. I don't even hate Toronto fans like most everyone else. What I can't grasp is how someone who is having issues with media pressure then states they'll only be in Toronto or not working next year. It's not logically consistent to me. Maybe he doesn't like the options available right now and waits for another year, but there are ~25 markets that would not have the media stress of anything like Toronto. |

will never know Dubas side of how it went.
im sure its a little different than explained by Shanny.
anyways, going to be a wild ride this summer - senstroll
I doubt the heavier parts were untrue.
1. No contract offer last summer
2. After TDL Shanny says we're ready to do this if you are
3. Shanny makes offer prior to playoffs
4. Dubas takes time and tells them he needs time day before presser
5. Shanny goes into zen-like reflection mode
6. Dubas counters on Thursday
7. Shanny gets Mexican take out ...decides to sleep on it ..has a rough night due to Mexican take out and Dubas stress. Wakes up, poops, and decides that's a sign he needs to flush Dubas.
I'm thinking Treliving is on route. Or maybe they say (frank) it and go Bowman and Q. What would this league do without the Leafs and the drama. |

He sounds like a guy who doesn’t intend to uproot his family. Maybe that’s the reason. |

The Leafs have only one a single game post-first round in the past 19 years.
I'm not sure why I should care much about "the plan" anymore. |

Dubas didn’t talk about media pressure. He said the last year had been stressful for him and his family. I’m more convinced that the workings between Dubas/Shanny/Board were very strained. I’d guess that the Biard’s view since the last game was that he’s going. Shanny may or may not have tried to find a deal that worked for everyone in the last few days. He probably did because he knows better that there aren’t great alternatives or that the timing of bringing someone in and getting the poopload that needs to get done quick us very tough. |

Yuck.
Leafs should let Pridham act as interim GM until they can find a more compelling candidate... who just might be Pridham. |

Keefe is probably thinking he’s dodging bullets right now.
I wonder goals sour Dubas us right now. If he regrets anything was fine with the decision either way. |

If I was an incoming GM I'd keep that bullet in the chamber for now. |
