I was going to sign Dubas to an extension. Then I saw him basically crying on stage. It made me wonder if this is the vision we want for this hockey club? My core 4 spend plenty of time talking about their feelings as they sip lattes and order avocado toast. Meanwhile a man's man like Tkachuk is destroying everything in his path. Yeah, maybe time for a new GM... |

This feels similar to the Jays. Didnt want to make concessions for AA he goes on to win in Atlanta like 5 years later.
Not saying Dubas didn't help create this by maybe over playing a hand but maybe he was worth it. |

For all the money the leafs make and fork out they better hope they made the right decision.
I wish someone asked shanahan at the presser if he thinks there is someone on the open market that can do a better job then Dubas. - bryant
I honestly don't see how staying the course was ever going to be a "right" decision either.
I'm actually pretty relieved a decision has been made and I'm looking forward to new blood and new ideas... and a new (ish) core. |

AA certainly went all-in on those Jays teams. One wonders if he had stayed on, would they have had continued success?
Would be extremely ironic if Dubas signed on as GM somewhere else and won a Cup before the Leafs. |

I caught some of Shanahan rehashing the process (met with him on Sunday, we talked, presented offer, he did the thing and said the stuff and I was surprised, and then I got to thinking . . .) but had to stop listening. Was there any commentary on what they are looking for going forward or what they're doing with Keefe?
I would have thought they'd look internally - Gilman and Carbery getting consideration and if they don't fit the bill, look externally. I still think Tulsky or Botterill getting more consideration over guys who were recently fired. Bowman I would stay 100 miles away from. He is not his father. Treliving is interesting in that he made some really good moves but also some poor moves, but he had the Flames back in contender status. - Monkeypunk
Treliving is willing to make big moves (not always great moves) and that must appeal to the Board. The problem is that by the time he arrives, a lot of the big deals are off the table.
I’ve heard a few people mention Hunter if they want the un-Dubas option. |

Would be funny to see the Dubas haters have to admit he was much better than they thought

Curious what Dubas would do if the Senators offered him the Pres. of Hockey Ops job. |

Why doesn’t shanny just take over as gm. If he wouldn’t give Dubas full autonomy then I feel like he has his say anyways.
He spoke about Dubas and him talking for several hours about what the leafs will look like next year. What if shanahan didn’t agree with the outlook of Dubas. Maybe Dubas should just stick his neck out instead being a puppet master. |

Dubas set a really high bar with 1 playoff series win in 5 years. Good luck to the next GM. |

I've never been a Dubas "hater" - I've defended some of his moves and been skeptical about others but the collective angst about the Leafs deciding to part ways with Kyle seems really bizarre to me. More so than the angst Dubas haters had for him all of these years, if truth be told. |

To the Dubas wives: don't worry. Your boy will be working somewhere else soon. That was ALWAYS part of this negotiation. Feel free to follow him to the next team. |

You didn't leave when you hated him so why should anyone else leave? Take your own advice when the new GM doesn't do what you think they should.
Even better, I'll love it if they do and they still fail and see how you backtrack
Plus I bet you believe every word of Shanahan but was skeptical of everything Dubas said. Show your hate even more. |

A few focused, not-so-easily-attained additions to this team = demotions = ripple effect = Glengarry Glen Tossed for some, and these guys are playing May/June hockey…in the NHL.

Not the same at all.
Dubas was apprehensive and waivering, then wanted more money, so shanny moved on.
With AA, he wanted more power jays disagreed new to upper management and let him go. |

Whoever they hire, I hope the assistant GM is Hayley Wickenheiser.
Because its 2023.
Which just means 56 years and counting... |
