Hopefully the rumors of Matthews and Dubas being close are not true. - jribout
Basically every player talked about how much they like him and the good work he's done.
The optics of this all are pretty terrible. |

I think Dubas had autonomy. This Leaf team is about as un-Shanahan-like as it possibly could be. Dubas' presser had some honesty and some baloney IMO. We'll soon see if it was about money when the Penguins or some other team announces that Dubas signs a lucrative deal. - winsix
I just don’t think it’s all about the money is all. There is more to it.
If we’re talking 4 million and Dubas is asking for 6? Who the hell cares. You’re paying a coach from 3 years ago 6 million still.
Leafs getting an extra playoff game probably makes up for that difference, or eating salary on a trade. They do it all the time. I don’t think it’s money.
I just hope this works out or next year shanny is gone and this team is in retool/rebuild mode because they didn’t think Dubas was worth an extra million or 2. |

then the nail in the coffin game 7 a few days later on a balcony overlooking the Tyrrhenian in positano😍
life hack: don’t keep a woman there that will be pissed off with her sister while you’re enjoying these bittersweet moments, trust your gut and abandon all hope👊🏿
then everything is pretty easy👊 - Skalapy

Lol oh man I'd love to see a live reaction from you on that one - Aaron_85
Part of me knows the Leafs wouldn't do something that (frank)ing stupid, but then the events of today happened and I really don't know anymore. |

Rumour was 6 to 8m and they offered 4. Plus there's a lot of rumors about autonomy.
Again, this smells like the Jays and AA again. - Aaron_85
Did AA go public about maybe stepping back due to "family concerns", and then a few days later ratchet up with new financial parameters??
Thought not. |

We shall see. I don't think any contracts for free agents should be discussed at the moment but it's likely the group of AGMs had an idea of who Dubas wanted to bring back.

That doesn't matter. So if Dubas goes and wins you're going to say the team that let ego make the decision is still right?

No I don't think it wasn't only about money, and I believe Dubas was probably being honest about the toll his job took on his family. When Dubas publicly indicated he wasn't sure if he wanted to be the GM of the Leafs, he punched his ticket out of the organization. Say that to your boss behind closed doors is one thing, saying it at a press conference is a different matter. Same should go for any player.

What Shanahan said was that the gap wasn't the only issue that raised a concern - but doing a press conference that Shanahan didn't think was a good idea and saying that it was only about family then asking for more seems to have a certain odour to it. As someone that has hired and employeed many over the years, if an employee says out loud that "I'm not sure I want to work here anymore" my first reaction is - don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. Shanahan did the right thing here. Spezza and Dubas were pals, he quit knowing he would be fired into the sun. Keefe is done like dinner. - winsix
Most gms do end of year pressers. Dubas said he had to be held accountable.
Shanny hasn’t been seen in weeks/months? Starting to think there was a rift and shanny is playing the part of calm and collected the way he described this week when it was probably an emotional blow out.
And then Shanahan when nuclear |

Well I can't wait to see your takes on the new GM and more. Thing is, you still get to hate Shanahan and blame him for everything if the leafs continue to have little success.

Avoiding the question because you know I'm right.
As for your question, nope. Not an issue when he does a presser after a highly emotional time. People want more emotion and less canned responses and then they get thrown under the bus when they speak from their heart. Didn't work for the guy and that's on Dubas. Oh well...time to move on and look forward.
Once again, you hang on to every word of Shanahan and say Dubas had secret meaning in every one of his. We know you have a narrative and can't get away from it.

Shanny was in the GM box with Dubas game 4 v. the Panthers.

I agree with that.
I’m just worried they’re one step closer to retooling/rebuilding then they are to being a contender.
I guess we’ll see, I just think theyre not to far away from going on a run and this team just went upside down.
I hope I’m wrong though |

Another hot take I heard was signing Matthew maybe gets a little harder. Maybe he was willing to take less with Dubas here but now wants every dollar he can get.
Theres a lot of questions that will be answered in 6 weeks time. - Aaron_85
The way this was handled along with Spezza’s decision to walk won’t help with any of them. |

It will be interesting, Shanny indicated he wanted someone with experience. My only concern is there are alot of iffy re-treads out there.

The most important is Matthews, who said the sooner the better in his press meeting. Not sure how that goes now, but if anything, we'll see if this was a good thing or not by July 1, if he's got the extension signed or not. |
