Good analysis. It also seems like maybe there has been issues brewing for a while.

That's about the best take on things here. Been hearing that 'Somethings not quite right over there " from a lot of people for quite some time.

Thanks to Dubas, we have 3 picks in this year's draft. I wouldn't be too concerned on that front.

Yes, there are concerns with contracts (I've made that clear enough in this and previous threads) though calling this a "total (frank)ing poopshow" is a bit histrionic.

This idea that Shanahan lost his (frank)ing mind and rejected Dubas in the 11th hour as part of some ego rage trip is quite the narrative. It's one of the reasons I don't waste my time with the Steve Dangle's of the world.

- mjones242

Honestly, who cares if they have three draft picks. They're trying to make use of their window to win a cup, is the inability to draft an extra 18 year old or two impeding that at the moment?

Whats the comparables out there for other teams who have had their franchise players about to have NMC's until UFA, that decided it was a good idea to have no GM 5 weeks out?

How did that go?

You're acting like it's a Tuesday thing and someone going uhh, this is not normal and can't age well, is hysterical.

I don't care how it happened or what the reasoning was, a senior level manager in any organization has a duty to ensure their organization is never in this spot, as a baseline. That's their job. Making decisions on a whim to voluntarily leave them in that spot is insanity.

It's absolutely a poop show. Anyone who is saying the team is better positioned right now than they were 2-3 days ago should just go think.

Ya that sucks. Sorry that she had to see that.

I think it’s more common than we think, but it’s sucks when innocent bystanders get dragged into it because it obviously is a very traumatic experience.

- bryant

I think so, too.
This will take a while to shake off.

Otteinger definitely thought that was in.

I just hope these leaf core aren’t greedy little female doges now. You got your payday for not performing in the playoffs and if they do it again it will be depressing because they’ll have no one else to play with.

Hopefully it was a hard lesson but who knows maybe they’ll learn from it.

That's nonsense and you know it.

Call it posturing or whatever, he clearly still wanted to be here. Shanahan even said as such. That he told him he still wanted to be the GM. And the rumour (or was it actually reported?) was his deal was for 5 years.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Don't waste your time with him. he'll never grow up, Too full of himself.

Long story short...

Shanahan has been the real GM this whole time and Dubas has been the most glorified assistant GM of all-time.

This is why Lou left. This is also why Dubas was shown the door and given the blame when he wanted to be the GM without the strings attached.

Fire Shanahan because he's had 9 years and he is just as much a failure as everybody he's hired.

I mean, sure, you can say that. I don't agree. I think the news is fresh, shocking, and there's a lot of emotion at play.

I think the org is, and will be, fine. The Leafs culture isn't completely attached to Dubas and I sincerely doubt that Shanahan has lit the culture up in flames as a result of this decision.

But yes, only time will tell.

Pretty sure Shanny is on a short leash himself.

I was being facetious in my draft comment.

I think I'm going to bail from this toxic thread and chill for the rest of the night. Emotions are running high and I'm not going to let it ruin the start of a long weekend.

Peace out, brothers! ✌️

Whatever it takes to get Matthews to be a Leaf for life, is where I stand on it.

The most important move for all of us this summer, I'd say.

Pretty sure he played plenty of top six once Bennett intentionally injured Knies.

Hey, don't get me wrong I'm not trying to poop down your neck. Just explaining myself more thoroughly, sorry if that comes off as hostile.

I know you see it differently but I respect that you didn't come in here fired out of a cannon like a salty 10 year old telling people to go follow Dubas to his new team and cheer for them.

Marner is pretty soft.

However, he’s also elite.

I wonder if they could trick JT into taking the GM job for 11 million a year if he retires. Call it 5th-line center position or something. Let him take faceoffs during practice.

Dubas. No one should be surprised. Overrated as the GM for perennial franchise. Maybe gets hired as a GM for an XFL team…and that’s a stretch…what were his prior credentials? Likely had personal dirt on….to get the job in first place

I don't like him rescinding the offer - as I said, to me it's a bad faith move - but he is the president. They report to him. He has to have that authority.
- Monkeypunk

He didn't rescind the offer per se. Dubas didn't accept it and countered. And only after giving doubt as to whether he could actually handle the job.

Sure, you'd like to think your employer would back you up when feeling insecure or doubting yourself, but at the same time, as a leader, you want to make sure your people really want to be there. And moreso, you'd want them to want to kill for the job. Especially this one.

But some of this does feel ego driven and that can sometimes bite you in the butt.

Buckle up over these next 5 weeks or so. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Leafs should fire Shanahan and call Dale Tallon to be the President and/or GM.

Follow that up with his buddy Joel Quenneville as head coach.

He had a huge part in the rebuild of the Blackhawks and actually did a lot of great work with the Panthers.

Players drafted under Dale Tallon in Chicago between 2003-2009.

Seabrook, Crawford, Byfuglien, Brouwer, Bolland, Barker, Bickell, Hjalmarsson, Toews, Kane and Kruger.

Players drafted under Dale Tallon in Florida between 2010-2017.

Gudbranson, Bjugstad, Donskoi, Hyman, Petrovic, Trocheck, Huberdeau, Weegar, Barkov, Ekblad, Tippett and Crouse.

Pretty good (frank)ing list.

In terms of active executives, you'll find few guys with a draft record that strong that have produced that many Cup winners. He's currently employed by Vancouver as a senior advisor and pro scout. Definitely able to acquire him.

Trade him to Buffalo. He can still drive there from Oakville. Promise him pajamas for life.

Interesting that Dubas is represented by Chris Armstrong of Wasserman.

Also a Wasserman client: Auston Matthews

Considering that MLSE has been a squeaky clean org for reputations I don't see JQ getting a job here. Besides he has to be reinstated to the NHL first so I don't know why people put him on a list of coaches until that happens
