The Rangers as an organization have done a terrible job at developing top 10 picks.
McIlrath
Kravtsov
Andersson
Kakko
Laf
Eventually the excuse of it being the player doesn’t work anymore. The Rangers organization needs a change in their scouting/development process. - nyrangers9479
Jed Ortmeyer, Tanner Glass and Matt Hunwick are in charge of all that. They should all be fired.

How the NYR think those 3 are a good idea is beyond me. We’ve generally done a terrible job at drafting and developing, but the top 10 picks have been abysmal.
2010 - McIlrath Fast (6 players drafted)
2011 - JT Miller (6 players drafted)
2012 - Skjei (4 players drafted)
2013 - Buch Duclair Graves (5 players drafted)
2014 - Shesty (7 players drafted)
2015 - All busts (7 players drafted)
2016 - All busts (6 players drafted)
2017 - Lias Chytil Barron (7 players drafted)
2018 - Krav Miller Nils (10 players drafted)
2019 - Kakko Jones (8 players drafted)
I’d say it’s still to early to judge these other drafts, but 2020 looks ok with Laf Schneider Cuylle, then you have Bedard Rempe and Ollas who the jury is still out on.
Way to early for the 2021 and 2022 draft classes. |

if Kakko and Lafreniere were "developed better" they'd score goals? |

So...would everyone be ok if the Rangers hired Q, Traded for Logan Mailloux, and Mitchell Miller?
Seems like a "buy low" opportunity. |

how has Jed Ortmeyer effected the development of Lafreniere when he's literally never been around him |

why - jimbro83
Because if they had better coaching, they'd be better players. Instead the Rangers hired all former 4th liners (scouts, skills coach, assistants etc.) Hire trash, develop like trash. Pretty simple. |

so we are going to venture back to they should have played Panarin and Kreider less the last two years and played Lafreniere more

I look forward to someone saying the Rangers should have give Lafreniere and Kakko AHL time, when Lias Andersson and Kravtsov were always total babies about going to Hartford |

I think Kakko and Laf would have taken those assignments like professionals. But that ship has sailed. They are with the top club for better or worse. |

If things were normal etc.
But being a 1OA he likely never does get any AHL time. |

and he has had two top 10 left wings in the league in front of him the whole time
it's really easy to say the Rangers did him wrong but not offer up any suggestions of what they should have done

Just a bad situation all around. Though I will contend that Laf COULD have been a more dynamic player and forced his way to another position or into the top 6. I still think there is a lot of potential there. Not sure how this will all end up though.
Kakko looks great often enough. I am not too worried aside from his finishing ability. |

the good thing about Kakko is that he doubled his best point total this year and he's signed at a great price this coming season

One of the reasons why signing Panarin so early in the rebuild was a mistake. No matter how good he is. |

I'm in the opposite way of thinking. The Rangers turned these two in grinders. That's just what they are now. Because what are the odds than a kid from Finland and Kid from Quebec were both label can't miss and are more miss than hit? They aren't busts, but they don't do anything well. I refuse to blame them and place all the blame on the Rangers. |
