I was reading Hockey Writers potential trade partners for the Flames. It said Lindholm to CBJ for their first round pick and then it said Tanev to either Buffalo or NJD for a second round pick. I was surprised to see his value at a second only. - VANTEL
Lindholm to Columbus is a pipe dream, wouldn’t think he’s worth the 3oa. Maybe Cole Sillinger and a 2nd?
Tanev will get more at the deadline…….if he’s healthy.
Hanifin to Buffalo for the 12th oa +, if he signs an extension.

I've seen that Silinger proposal before, I am not sure they are trading him.
Conroy has a big job ahead of his season. Good thing he is familiar with everyone and everything. Calgary are in a bad place right now. Going to need some good GMing.

Sorry but Hanafin ain’t going anywhere on the must win now Flames.
Besides Sabres are moving the 12OA to Canucks for the package of Boeser, Garland and Myers. 💸🙃

Arturs Silovs has been named MVP of the #IIHFworlds.

That's a positive - VANTEL
👍
Idiots on here don't seem to realize how good Silovs played and how much of an underdog Latvia was .
The kids got game , maybe our #1 sooner than some think or a possible trade chip to help out |

Exciting times really, look forward to watching it unfold. He has a chance to put his name on this roster, let’s see if he’s up to it. |

Kylington coming back could make pending ufa Hanifin expendable. 26 year old D.
To the Canucks for the 11oa + a 2nd next year if he signs an extension. |

Wow, impressive.
Maybe Demko + one of the anchor contracts is the potential dump? |

“Adam Fantilli’s draft-eligible season has ended.
Some highlights:
• Led NCAA in goals (30)
• Led NCAA in points (65)
• Hobey Baker Award
• NCAA Freshman of the Year
• WJC gold medal
• WC gold medal
What a year.”
I think he’s gonna be as good an NHL’er as Connor Bedard. |

Pretty much like Canucks but Calgary has some very hard contracts tied to age. We got OEL.

He’s got 7 contracts coming up. Flames can’t afford to sign them all. They already hitched their cart to Huberdeau and Kadri. At least 2 will go and Lindholm indicated that he might not want to come back. He’s got lots of work ahead. |

Bold statement! I suspect this will be like Eichel and McDavid at best for Fantilli. The top5 could be legit mega stars this year though, it's a good draft that way.... would love to see a trade up for that reason. |

Every team has a bad contract or 2, Huberdeau's, 8 yr 10.5 mil contract kicks in this year, Yikes! 60 point players don’t come cheap. |

Wow! And Toronto is thinking of hiring Treviling? Maybe they can get Benning as AGM to complete the ensemble. |

Getting rid of Sutter might calm the boys down a bit. Huberdeau will probably bounce back after the shock of being traded and fitting into a new situation. |

He still drafted them, thus still evidence of an ability to evaluate/draft NHL calibre talent. I know its difficult to give old gms any credit, and i really enjoy the thought of dippoops that piss and moan on here thinking they know better, but facts are facts. - neem55
Mike Gillis had exactly two top 10 picks, 1 at 10 at 1 at nine. His two picks were Hodgson and Horvat.
Horvat is what he is, but on the whole including the trade with NJD it's a very positive pick. Hodgson developed back issues after he was drafted, and still had a middling NHL career.
His back certainly didn't help his foot speed, and it cut his career short. That's just from a perspective of top 10 picks vs what Benning did. He hit on two, whiffed on two and one is yet to be determined. That's simply from a top 10 pick perspective , although 4 of Benning's picks were in much more premium spots than Gillis' 9th and 10th overall pick.
To be fair, Benning picked at 6,23,5,5,7, 10. After that, he picked twice in the top 100 over 2 years. That last sentence is on the GM part, but if you're a draft guru don't you want picks?
I'll try to examine the drafting records of the other bottom 10 teams over the 8 years outlined above. I hardly doubt he's been good at drafting, let alone great. |

I agree, not trading for picks was a huge failure |
