It all depends, to me demoting Podz and Hogs seems more like "We've given up and don't think they're going to be in our plans going forwards, so why not dump them on Abbotsford while we see if anyone might be willing to give us assets for them" than actual development. It's not as if they haven't had a lot of chances in the NHL.

Canucks were winger heavy and Hogs and Podz being waiver exempt made it easier to send them down.

Have they earned spots to be NHL regulars? Not yet. Can they? Well that’s what taking the time to find out should reveal. There is always that sell high on a JV or OJ or stay patient for a Forsling or Mcann kind of call with young players.

If I was Woo I would not sign an AHL contract. There might be a few teams willing to pick up off waivers a RHD 22 yr old 6'2 player. Look at Chatfield. Chance to make NHL minimum.

I agree.
But at least he was a second round. The Joulevi pick was just dumb when Sergachev was the highest ranked D man and available and Chychrun had fallen down the rankings but at one point early in that season was ranked #2 overall.

On the positive side Hirose who was not drafted, and a freebie, has already played 7 NHL games.
