After the first two kids I'm reading the next ten could go in any order it's such a deep draft. Because of that I think you'll see a lot of teams draft for need in those spots. - LeftCoaster

The flat rate was there for the pandemic and the escrow. Both will be over by next year. From everything I have heard once the escrow is gone it will go up by 7 mil. I believe that esrow clause of paying back was a five year agreement which is over next year?
The league made a bundle last year , time for an increase. - VANTEL
Canucks shouldn't make any rash decisions this season then. Let contracts run out and earn from picks from assets. |

As reported on 32 pod, I don’t think Columbus will trade this pick. Too good a player available |

Don’t get me wrong but it’s the cap hit in years 3 & 4 that are the hang up. The 8yrs I can live with. The cap will begin to increase significantly next year & beyond & we can maybe manage resigning Petey & Hronek but that’s about it. So we will stagnate to a degree with no cap space. In that time we will start filling the prospect cupboard but they will need time to develop.
So stepping back back to the now we will be heavily reliant on current players to improve more than incrementally & prospects in the system to make big strides to crack the roster & be legit upgrades. That puts it on Hoglander D Petey Karlsson Klimovich etc to impact in a meaningful way. Silovs I’m high on & in goal we are looking great.
If RT & co can change the team into a better consistent group helps the most. - Nighthawk
I see it this way. In years 3 and 4 it is a 4.7 cap hit. That is still a 2.4 savings for a player that will be expired. If the cap did crawl up at a measly 1 mil per year then it would have still increased 3 mil so again my point is who cares.
You have to know other money will be moved also. Myers is off the books after next year and Brock in two years that is 13 mil plus.
I have faith in Hirose from what I seen and I think DPetey (six letters) will be ready in three years hopefully. You also have three years of drafting ahead to find players.
I think Canucks have made some moves last year that are positive like Kuzmenko Silovs Aman Dakota Mikheyev. Keep on making positive moves going forward. |

Petey is going to want at least 10.5 (probably more) for 8 years, I don't think we can take that kind of dead cap going forwards. I'd love for JR/PA to bite the bullet and trade OEL somehow (maybe with the 11OA) so that they have that breathing room. My prefered deal is to get rid of Miller, but I know that's a pipe dream, so getting Only Empty Loser off of the blueline with no cap left on our books would be best. |

Here are some wild ideas to consider in trades. Trust me they are wild and your first and probably last response will be hell no.
This is a smaller level idea. Garland (I like this guy what he brings) to WPG for Dillon and a 2024 third round pick. Dillon is a cap dump and is not great at D but would fill the void left by Schenn and Burroughs. That would give Canucks a 1 mil cap relief this year and five mil the following two. Third round pick and cap room.
This is the big one. Sign and trade Petey. Much like what Buffalo did with Eichel. You would get a huge return. My ask for the return would be Jiricek Carsson and Jenner. I would make this trade at the TDL. Even if his new deal included a NMC it would not kick in until the following year.
Columbus want a top line C well he is a top line C.

Escrow owed is down to only 70m. $5.4b revenue estimated this season so surely a sizeable cap increase is coming for 2024/25. |

Other dominos need to fall before entertaining an OEL buyout. Petey & Hronek extensions are coming fast. Other RFA’s now & later are to follow. This season is a bite the bullet & ride it out. Moving assets out now is folly. The capologist has some real tough work ahead to project the next 3-5yrs & beyond.
Myers is the biggest key imo with a winger being next up. As much as I & you want OEL to disappear it comes down to timing & their is no magic pill to swallow given so many contracts affecting the cap dynamics now & later.
Only dream is a compliance buyout is agreed to by both the NHL & NHLPA to save the day. |

There is no good time to buy out OEL. You either bite the bullet or take the bullet up the ass. He is a 7 mil cap player that plays like a 2 mil player. I thought Hirose gave about the same level of play.

They have said they will give this coaching staff a year to bring him back to what he played at in the first season in Van. So if he plays better, might be 2 or 3 years. If he sucks. They will regret not buying him out. |

Here's an idea , trade BB for C.Tanev , Tanev is what OEL needs to be serviceable, and tide out a couple yrs then LTIR OEL into the sunset , |

If Jets say yes do Garland.
As for Petey if you do that it’s rebuild time. Just keep going with JTM, Demko, QH etc as that would be the way to go all in.

It’s the order events Mgmt chooses to take. Many changes are needed to go along with RT prepping them for 2023/24. RFA signings & drafting & next TDL. The farm continuing to develop. Like I said it’s dominos & which is 1st then what follows. |

I don't necessarily think it is rebuild time, but I don't think they are close enough either to invest over 10 mil in a player long term.
Getting in on ELC of your future 1C and 1RHD go a long long way, even more so with Silovs starting to show his talents.
It buys you a lot of time and if you did keep that 11 th pick you could add another top D or top C. It also clears out 8 mil in cap this year and even more next year.
It would be something like Jiricek Carsson Simashev and cap space for Petey. It is a lot to consider.

I am not a big fan of the new coach bump. I mean they have had Torts and AV here also and they are what they are. I think it will help short term, but I don't see him as a big motivator or a great exes and oohs coach.

Okay not bad for D but that leaves gap at center on the wrong development and compete time line.
This the reason it’s a rebuild is you’re losing your 1C for a few years until Carlson is ready for that. Which means your core will age up and if that’s the case might as well go full in.
Only reason Canucks are not rebuilding and trying to stack players 25 and under is to fit with Petey and QH plus Demko prime compete years. This is why CBJ wants to trade their pick. As it won’t help how they have set up the team. They need prime ready now. So do Canucks.
However, if Canucks can add Carlson like moving JTM plus. Then they can stopgap a UFA to fill in at 2C. Carlson comes in as 3C and works up. When he overtakes Petey in 5 years Petey can be the 2C.
Why I say that with Petey, who is developed, if you move him, you then should move the rest of the core. Then rebuild with what you bring in. |
