I doubt it. They got merked by injuries, would not be surprised if they keep that roster and run it again.

Allvin has a busy summer. Hope he takes the CHI deal if true.
- VanHockeyGuy

Potential possibly there. I don't really want to give up a better player for a few lesser players that are less likely to pan out. I don't want assets devalued but Benning mistakes weren't small, some were very large.

It’s a gamble either way on volume or risk it on one guy. Talent is so hard to predict. But I see your point and the other and wonder what does it take to make the right call?

Luck. Maybe some kind of lucky charm from a carny. There is also research and years of experience.

Lol sure. Though, were all those busts not researched by years of experienced people?

Like what’s the missing ingredient here?

I think management teams all have hit/miss,
Every Kane and Toews there’s a Cam Barker and Jack Skille. People tend to forget this type of thing.

Drafting isn't an exact science, you're trying to project 18 year old prospects 5-10 years down the road, not everyone you draft are going to hit. Some bust because of injuries, others because their mental toughness isn't there, others it's because their skill in junior doesn't quite translate well to the NHL and some just don't flourish in a team's system because of lack of proper coaching/development/etc.

We always harp on Benning picking Juolevi over Tkachuk, but there was always the chance that OJ might have been the best D in that draft over Sergachev and Chychrun had he not injured his back like he did, it set him back years in development that he could never get back and hampered his mobility which for a defensemen is essentially their life.

Ryan Reaves has proved effective into his 30’s. All depends on the $ize of the contract and term.
- Shuswap Wap

Bottom 6 should only make 800-975K. Does Reaves fit the mold?

Yeah I remember, Tre was being lauded as the next GM of the year. Now you've got Nonis and Conroy. Your two best players suck and got a Coach and GM fired. Plus you're using the Canucks as a measuring stick. Sad really.
- Load Management

lol. Probably time to talk about Turtlechuk flourishing outside of the Flames organization and avoiding the 20 year rebuild there since 2005. Nonis will help Calgary huge.

Not watching a minute of Hockey but weren't the Canes pretty banged up and three of their top guys still injured? Probably don't need to change much there if the club is healthy no?

Idiot.
- VanHockeyGuy

lol reminds me of the time ol' Lefty tried to tell us all the Flames won their cup in '89 based off the draft and it tuned out that only something like 6-7 players were actually drafted by the franchise on that Cup team. lol good times.

Drafting is only a small part (but important) of the process to building a championship caliber club. So many intangibles go into it. At that time OJ was coming off a stellar Mem Cup performance and no one could have predicted his injuries after the fact. We get enough crying about missed opportunities in here day to day lol

Not to Allvin's liking but I'd say pick some players with high floors that are likely to hit but with lesser ceilings.

Trust in JR to get things moving. Allvin has a loooooong way to go.

Looks like Jimmy would have fit well here as our backup goalie making 800K per.
