Which tiny winger are you pining for this year?
- CanuckDon

You going to put him on your "he is never going to play in the NHL list"?

I’ve read high-end 2C and top out at a 1C. Projections are wide and varied though. There are so many factors that play into how good a 17 year old kid will become at the NHL level. Unless you’re extremely talented, your talent level is only a part of that because there’s a lot of people who are very good hockey players but they don’t fit into a certain situation. Look at William Karlsson on Vegas, 23/24 year old with a career high 9 goals, gets picked by Vegas and is given a role way over and above what he’s ever been given and he scores 43 goals. He might win the Conn Smythe this year.

I've never seen anyone other than Pronman and public scouts say top 6. It's always been middle 6 and you know if Pronman is pinning for a guy. It's never good.

Well I suppose it depends on what prospect you are referring to

I've talked about many. Maybe Wood.

Penguins scout but written by a writer.

“The definition of a playmaker, Danielson is an intriguing prospect made in the mold of a prototypical NHL player. There is no obvious flaw to his game that cannot be improved. He is a creative, pass-first player that seems to elevate those around him. Playing on a below .500 team in the WHL, Danielson was the shining star of the Wheat Kings this past season, leading his team in all offensive categories and playing in every special teams and important situation.

He projects to be a high-end second line center, with potential to be a first line player eventually. Danielson has silky hands. He rarely has trouble corralling a difficult pass from a teammate, and has the quick reflexes to make a play out of nothing. He also uses his frame well, using his body to shield the puck from defenders and outmuscling the opposition to get into position.”

Did you hear his comments during an interview? I’m on the fence with Wood, high ceiling for sure if he hits

After that review, why is he not being talked about as a top 3 pick?

I remembered from hockey prospect that Brad Allen said "top 5 north south skater", "1 transition goal, play making rates high danger lateral passing/playing making rates are the worst of the top 32 he tracked."

Because there’s players that project to be better than that.

I’ve also read he’s not good at handling the puck in tight spaces. These are coachable things though.

Consensus seems to be very different and from three guys that don't see really anything that the Penguins scout said.

Disclaimer, not saying these guys are right. Just opinions that aren't near as homerish as the Pens guy who thinks Danielson is better than Bedard with that review.

Pretty well guaranteed if Van scouts are after him, someone in there saying he is the next Bo Horvat. Most did not like Horvat's game.

They’re just opinions, it’s an inexact science, there’s so many examples of guys who went middle of the pack or second round that are great NHL players. Like I said, William Karlsson is one of them. Barzal, Bergeron (extreme example), JT Miller, Danault, Tarasenko, Kuznetsov, O’Reilly, Giroux, Backlund, Kopitar, it’s just an endless list.

A lot of those players are not analytics decade. Barzal was but he was injured almost his entire draft season. The science is changing and drafting is actually getting more accurate.

Did that nerd you are quoting mention that Daniellson plays with trash teammates? Advanced stats are so terribly flawed in hockey. He didn’t have enough primary assists! Well his wingers (frank)ing suck at hockey

I was just reading some old scouting reports on Kopitar on HF lol, all over the map, some said huge potential and raw skill, some said his skating has to improve or he’ll never amount to anything at the NHL level. #1000+points

Number 11 in this draft is probably equivalent to number 5 or 6 most years. For a team with no high end prospects, I personally don’t consider it wise trade down and miss out on a potential top pairing D or center to accumulate depth

An Adrian Kempe or Jared McCann type player is what they need. They don’t need to hit a home run, they just need a good NHL player. Elias Pettersson is just 24 years old and a top 20 center in the league.

Josh Norris, Robert Thomas, Filip Chytil all taken 19-20-21 in 2017. All good NHL players.

Weird, I remember the same thing was said about another WHL center in Peyton Krebs, that he was actually really good just played with bad teammates. Hoglander has more points than he does.

It’s going to be really interesting there could be a prospect ranked in the 20’s go in the top 10. Regardless there should be a few beauties available
