If I'm not mistaken Bob asked to be traded cause he didn't want to be behind the space cadet(Bryz). - Phillywhiteout
The only reason he was stuck behind Bryz to begin with was Ed Snider's "Never Again" mandate.
Distant corporate ownership has its drawbacks, but at least we don't have to worry about Scott or Hilferty getting emotional and meddling in hockey ops. |

IMO a lot of their problems have been coaching/systems related. They could still turn into something scary if they hire somebody decent who can get them to play a more cohesive team game.
Although their core is surprisingly old... window could slam shut on them if some of these kids don't really get going. They traded a ton of picks away too, so if they miss on their 1st-rounders (which they usually do lol), they're so (frank)ed. - Tomahawk
They definitely need to figure out a way to improve their team game and to not rely so much on goaltending. I just don't like teams who trade away quality to chase something and then wind up having to give up high assets to add the same quality back. The rest of the league is glad that their young players have been slow to develop. |

"Having been a part of this process, I believe this is an outstanding way to engage and really connect with our fans," said Keith Jones, President of Hockey Operations for the Philadelphia Flyers. "What's exciting to me is that we've consistently said we are going to build this team the right way and with this series, we are telling that story in real time as it is unfolding."

I hope Jones explains what the "right way" is in his mind. I bet Fletcher thought he was building the right way as well. |

Trade anything of value over the age of 25 and truly bottom out the next few seasons while the bad contracts play out. It seems so simple and yet the Flyers/Comcast are so stupid. - hereticpride
This. And also use any extra cap space this year to acquire assets at the deadline on 1 year deals. It's so simple that it's ridiculous |

Coming off the heels of the success of the team's 2022 offseason docuseries, The Standard, which provided a behind-the-scenes look into players' offseason preparation under Head Coach John Tortorella, the Liftoff series will continue to provide unprecedented access to Flyers players and leadership.

My response to Keith Jones is the best and most outstanding way to engage and really connect with the fans. Is by putting a quality team on the ice that can contend. That connection is made on the ice. Not in the media editing room. I have no interest whatsoever in any of that nonsense. |

Jones employed by the Flyers 5 minutes.
Fans: fire him! He’s saying too many stuff and things! |

That sounds like philly fans.
If we ever win the cup people will complain that it took 6 ganes to win instead of 5 games.

Goodrow was another player the Rangers erred in adding. Along with Reaves and Sammy Blais. They traded high skill to add them and it cost them. I said the moves were a mistake at the time and that has proven to be true. - MJL
Those players had grit. I'll never understand the love affair with grit. All that it creates is slow boring hockey. BTW it is also Keith Jones' favorite word |

The complaining is an example of how spoiled we’ve been in the past. I have no problem with holding the organization to a high standard but Jonesy has been employed one week. Today alone, I’ve heard complaining that he’s still broadcasting for the Stanley Cup playoffs when his focus should be on the Flyers. So far I’m hearing complaining that when talking to the media, he’s not saying the things fans think he should be saying. Let’s be honest, most of you don’t like the hire so it doesn’t matter what he says. It’s May 23rd 2023. There isn’t much to do right now in Flyerland. |

I agree that aside from discussing whom to pick in the draft and whom to trade that there is not much to be discussed . Let Jonesy obligate his contract. And I'm a fan of the hire. If they want a PR face then they chose a good one.
There won't ever be a day in here that nobody complains about something. Never ever. I just pick and choose my discussions in here.

Jamie Benn didn't act like a captain tonight. Never ever should a captain do something like that at the beginning of a must win game! Their goalie blew chunks, but your captain needs to be MUCH smarter than that. |

I bet you if they win the cup, the female doging will go away. Maybe that's why there is so much female doging. Fans want the Flyers to win the cup. Maybe you're looking for a PR face but I'm not. Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining. There is no video, no add or statement that they can possibly put out that moves the bar for me in any way. I want action and the action needs to start right away. Not after he's done with his other job. If all Keith Jones is going to be is a PR face, then it is a wasted hire. |

He definitely is the type of owner you want. I just think towards the end he was desperate because he could see the end of the calendar approaching. And you don't make good decisions when you're desperate.

He had his good and his bad.
His good was that he was passionate about his team and willing to spend to win.
His bad was that spending to win every single year was really the only method he cared to use. Lack of longterm vision and unwavering loyalty to his players from the Bullies years.
He'd spend a fortune on an over the hill vet to go for it this year rather than try to develop/draft the young kid who might be ready down the road but even his spending had it's limits. He'd spend a fortune fixing last year's mistakes and trading them to teams like Arizona but he couldn't fix them all.
A little longterm vision and planning would've gone a long way and the salary cap hit him like a mack truck when he couldn't just outspend everyone. He never adjusted and neither did the people he surrounded himself with.

I like Keith Jones but I have to agree with you, the only thing that matters is what moves are being made this off-season to get this team back on track. This means clearing some cap space and obtaining more draft capital. I also feel the Flyers need to be aggressive and move up in the draft so they can get the 1C they desperately need. Anything short does not move the needle for me. |

FWIW, I don't think Jonesy was hired to JUST be a PR guy. Yes, he does well in that regard cause he is a very likeable guy, but I think he may surprise people with his hockey knowledge. He has been a very good analyst for a long time now and knows the league quite well. He seems to be a smart insightful guy and I'm thinking that he won't back down from King Torts! Or perhaps this is all just wishful thinking. Guess we will find out. |
