FWIW, I don't think Jonesy was hired to JUST be a PR guy. Yes, he does well in that regard cause he is a very likeable guy, but I think he may surprise people with his hockey knowledge. He has been a very good analyst for a long time now and knows the league quite well. He seems to be a smart insightful guy and I'm thinking that he won't back down from King Torts! Or perhaps this is all just wishful thinking. Guess we will find out. - Phillywhiteout
You know who else on TV had watched a metric (frank) ton of hockey games, extensive contacts throughout the league and a near encyclopedic knowledge of every NHL and junior player in the world?
Pierre McGuire.
And he was an absolute dumpster fire as an executive. Ottawa just fired him after only one-year as a team VP.
Underqualified is underqualified. |

having a 3 headed leadership monster will work wonders.
unless "jonesy" is just playing a role you can see clearly what type of players he likes by his broadcasting.

So Crosby met with Dubas last night... looks like he's probably a finalist. |

Jamie Benn, you dummy!! - SuperSchennBros
What was he thinking? Just completely dumb. The team was in a do or die situation and he wasn't there to help them.

All this talk about giving up on Bob coming from the same group of people that miss Ed Snider. Anyone remember why Homer made that move? Win now mode doesn't always work especially in salary cap Era. - cdearth23
It's almost the same group that has given up/ wants to trade Hart. |

To be fair when Eugene passed that’s what led to Mcguires firing. Eugene went over the GMs head and hired him almost the same way Barber was hired to lead Dave Scott in understanding the game. Dorian never wanted him and never saw a role for McGuire.
I do get your point on experience, having been around the game as much as Jonesy has been won’t necessarily translate to success in the front office.

The penalty was dumb. Refusing to speak post-game as the captain was worse. |

I do wonder how his TV persona will translate to team construction. I watched Conroy s Flames pressor and noticed a stark difference. Conroy came right out and said….changes to the core will happen, changes to personnel will happen and they will get younger….kind of refreshing. No beating around the bush….he wants to put his stamp on his team. |

this doing it the "right way" is all just the buzz word to buy them time.
Really wonder what the real plan is going forward. I have not seen anything concrete in any way from this management group. All this video stuff and the like is a distraction.

Dallas is already a good team. Trade him, get better, move forward. |

"Having been a part of this process, I believe this is an outstanding way to engage and really connect with our fans," said Keith Jones, President of Hockey Operations for the Philadelphia Flyers. "What's exciting to me is that we've consistently said we are going to build this team the right way and with this series, we are telling that story in real time as it is unfolding."
=================
I hope Jones explains what the "right way" is in his mind. I bet Fletcher thought he was building the right way as well. - Flyers_01
Jones has also spent the last few years slurping some of Fletcher's worst acquisitions, e.g. Deslauriers and Ristolainen.

Not one follow up question from anyone on the PR tour for him to elaborate on what the “right way” means.
I means it’s a rebrand. Not a rebuild.

they clearly think the fans are dumb and will buy this nonsense. Then again maybe a lot will. Hopefully attendance craters again.
any word on how the season ticket base is these days?

If Pierre was adding any value at all they would have just let him stick around. Team on a shoestring budget doesn't just perform a $1M buyout of an exec on a whim. The board must have agreed with Dorian that Pierre was actually a detriment.
Jonesy will either prove that he's an asset or he won't. Nobody knows at this point. We certainly can't make any assumptions based on his TV persona or anything he's said publicly prior to being hired. |

Why not? He clearly prefers/likes a certain type of player. Unless as i said before it is just a role he plays.
Either way making that assumption based on what he prefers is fine. |

It's hard to know what he legit feels and what was scripted to push a certain angle for the broadcast. |

I didn’t mean to suggest that McGuire was doing a good job….that was a weird hire from the start. I still not sure what he actually accomplished if anything….only Eugene really knew. |

I get that to a point and it may be possible. . Though I need to be more convinced he doesn't feel that way. The way he talks it up seems legit to me. Actions baby!!!
If he was scripted and took the President job what's that say?

I try not to pay to much attention to what they say….it’s more what they are going to do. Enough of the (frank)ing excuses…I want to see moves made that point to a coherent plan to actually show a direction that has a chance of success…is that really to hard to accomplish? I’m sure chuck’s left behind his signature app for trade ideas to get them started. |

Supposedly he stuck his neck out for MDZ, convinced them to sign him in UFA, which turned into a disaster and buyout. |

Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. I have no doubt that Montreal and Philly have had talks. Reporters may speculate who the conversations are about. Caufield and Hart will drive a conversation from fans. Why not throw it out there. I usually look at other pieces that might make more sense. Habs have some young talent. They could use a top goalie. I love Josh Anderson if he's healthy and one of their young dmen. |

It suggests that he's gonna be more of a politician and mascot than a real factor in the rebuild.
