I'd just go with this:
President and GM = Shanny
AGM (and heir apparent) = Tulsky
AGM (capologist extraordinaire) = Pridham
Shanahan can lean hard on his AGM's per trades and make the ultimate decisions.
Once Tulsky has additional AGM experience with the Leafs he takes the role.
Treliving sounds like a lock though. Sigh. - mjones242
I don’t know why Shanny would want that and I doubt the Board would agree especially if Tannenbaum is all excited about his buddy from Calgary coming in. |

Canes and Panthers were in a bidding war.
Canes best offer was Necas, Jarvis, Bear, 2nd.
Calgary decided they liked Huberdeau, Weegar and a 1st better. - BINGO!
Vegas, Dallas, StL and TB were the other's on the list. None of them could get involved due to $$/Cap.
It's why it's really likely that 34 and 16 are still here going forward.
88's a little more mobile given his $7M price tag. Less trade restrictions after July 1 and a salary of $2.5M next year. I'm not saying trade him ...just that he's the most tradeable. |

what were the circumstances? - senstroll
That tkachuk forced his hand and everyone knew about it. He would only accept a trade and sign an extension with a few teams that were to his liking. Tkachuk screwed the flames over big time and nobody thought that Treliving would be able to get back as much as he did. |

Yup, this
A lot of us were predicting Calgary to make the finals. Huberdeau disappointed, but he did a great job considering the difficult situation. |

He knows the Leafs won't place him with the Marlies. That's about 3.7M in lost cap space to them.
His agent and the Leafs know it's trade (if it works for both) or buyout. Maybe to sweeten the trade, the Leafs could even eat a portion of the contract (say $1M) to avoid the $2M penalty next year if they went buyout.
I'm sure they'll push every trade opportunity possible before the buyout period in June. - The Law
Murray is owed $8M in real money this year, so the there’s that. |

With a fanbase of 11 trillion there are going to be a lot of folks disappointed no matter who they hire.
Realistically the guys qualified and able to take the job can be counted on one hand. Maybe even a hand that's missing a finger or two.
They'll be fine. The Shanny group-think tank will continue with a new voice in the room. Apparently they want one with some 'bite'. If I remember correctly the group of biters narrows the search down to Ken Linsemen, Claude Lemieux, Dave Manson, Chris Chelios, Marc Savard, and a few others. |

Ya, that was my point. $8M in total cash ...$6M Leafs/$2M Sens.
Leafs could eat 25% if it sweetened the deal and that would be $1.5 in cash but about $1.1 in cap space.
Going to measure that against the buyout numbers ($660k and $2M). |

This is why I have hope that some RFA's are going to shake loose that the Canes can pounce on.
They have $24 million in space this summer and nobody to sign that would cost more than $3 or $4 million.
They're likely to have about 8-10 million to spend on somebody big. |

The more I look at the numbers the more I think it should be Murray/Woll and yeet Samsonov for whatever his rights get you, or sign and deal. Whatever.
1. Murray played well enough while healthy but Samsonov got 42 games or so anyway. Woll can back him up and get plenty of games either due to injury or "load management" on Murray. Middle of the season trade for another goalie could be possible.
2. Based on the arb rules I read on capfriendly Samsonov isn't getting less than 3.5 per year on his deal through arbitration. Might only get him for 1 year in this case and it's not like he's been super healthy either.
3. If they retain 1 mil on Murray, with 3.5 and Woll you're pretty much not saving anything compared to just trading Samsonov and keeping Woll/Murray.
4. Could all be for naught and if it's Treliving, I expect him to make a splash and obtain a goalie in a trade. Especially if the core 4 are staying. I don't think Treliving wants to go through a goalie carousel like he did at the start of his tenure in Calgary.

Couple of guys look like they 'should' be on the move - Dubois and Debrincat. Neither seem intent on signing long term so they should be moved.
What's Aho's extension look like this summer? Is he a $10M x 8? |

I don't think there are 'arb rules' that dictate a number. Leafs qualify him at his current price tag and if it goes to arb somebody randomly decides his worth. The comps I've seen and speculated about have him at about 3 - 3.5 for 2 yrs ...less if it's just 1 year.
I'd much rather have that over Murray at 4.65. I have zero faith in Murray. Even injured he's a huge risk to mess up your cap space.
Sammy+Woll+buyout or trade retention is about 4.5 - 5 combined.
Murray+Woll is about 5.5M combined.
I think option 1 gives you better g'tending and a smaller cap hit (in year one).
For me, you'd be throwing your season in the wind if you go with Murray and Woll. Both have monstrous injury histories. |

Would that figure be higher cause of his overall cap hit 6.25M or does Ottawa get a hit as well?
I'm not sure how that would work. |

Per capfriendly:
Club electing for Arbitration in the first window can be made in lieu of a Qualifying Offer [CBA 12.3(a)(ii)]
Player cannot be awarded less than 85% of his previous years combined base salary, signing bonuses and performance bonuses [CBA 12.3(a)(iii)] (85% of his salary of 8,225,000 is about 6,999,000)
Club offer for Arbitration in the second window equal to or higher than the Players previous years combined base salary, signing bonuses and performance bonuses [CBA 12.3(b)(ii)]
As I said, I read them. I didn't give misinformation.
