"But it also makes four straight years of Gibson falling below average relative to his workload, which can be a red flag. It’s a far cry from the heights of his career when he saved upward of 24 goals above expectation per year between 2016-17 and 2018-19."
A wing and a (frank)ing prayer. That contract has disaster potential. - TheSabresTaco

It's not elite but it's considerably better than what the Sabres have gotten.
I'd absolutely take him. |

EH projection 0% chance at 8 years, however if that came to be, estimated cost was 6.63M. |

I would’ve done that trade. Decent cap it players wise and cheap price
3rd round picks have less than a 33% chance of ever playing an nhl game. I would gladly give that up for a defensemen like that |

Maybe he lost his love of the game
I agree he is not the best move they can make but I think it's at least a serious move and he'd absolutely be an improvement over UPL |

For this team I'm not giving him that contract. He was always gonna be one of the big boys that got the bag. A lot of Sabre mocks didn't even include him in their mock offseasons. Now I can see why.
He's a good player but he's not 8x6.25 good.

Phew, that's bullet dodge. I wanted Severson but good on him for finding someone to pay him for 8 years. He'll be 36 when that contract ends, but he may very well start ramping down in a couple years already at 30. Yikes. |

As long as washedup thinks so. Otherwise, it's just another in a long line of bad contracts that the Sabres have given out over the last 12 years. |

(frank) i wouldn't even blame him.
I've softened *a little* on him, and I'm trying to consider how he's just been absolutely bombarded the past 2 years, while playing 109 games in that span. I think there's a small chance he rebounds a little bit, but for the term and money, that's a bad gamble to me.
I'd want an unreasonable trade of like Gibson and Luneau for Olofsson, Bryson and Comrie.
