If there trading for a Goalie I would want Saros. Think they should be going high end D shopping with their assets IMO.
- Buff36

Signing Levi then paying a premium to acquire a high end #1 just seems strange to me. Not Sabrey in either way.

I don't see the landscape changing for him in a year. Strange to go long term after a year, but it just kind of lines up for everyone.
- Lunaion

I think the landscape changes next year with the possibility of him betting on himself and wanting a Bridge Deal. Think they need to get that Long term done this year, you know you have him for 9yrs and it really helps set your Cap Foundation.

Agree but we would then have 4 goalies. Comrie you can send down to the AHL and if he gets claimed, so what. UPL would have to be traded cuz having 3 goalies on the active roster, like last year, is less than ideal
- turbo044

I don't know about that, maybe though.

Having 3 allows them to bring both UPL and Levy along at a slower pace, enabling plenty of time between games to work on their craft in practice for another year before more regular playing time.
I'd be OK with it.

Carry 3 all year? Hope not. Couldn't get that 3rd guy enough work with 1 G who could barely play once a week.

Getting confirmation the escrow has finally been paid off after the upcoming season wouldn't impact anything?

If you’re Power and you’re offered 8x8 now, do you take it? I don’t

No. I'd want at least $9M per, and even at $9M per, I'd hesitate.

Why wouldn't he believe he'll be worth what Dahlin got paid sooner rather than later?

I don’t think he possesses the offensive upside Dahlin does.

Not many d-men do quite frankly, hence why he was/should have been the Norris favourite prior to the injury.

Not really. We're talking a deal that runs 9 years out. Escrow is going to get paid off.

Dahlin's deal is going to put a cap on what he'd get long term. Don't think anyone else can sign that's going to change that in a significant way.

I would do it. Gives my family and I security for life and brings me to UFA at age 29 for another huge pay day.

Using Dahlin's deal as a percentage of the cap ceiling when the escrow is paid off and the cap begins rising consistently may paint a different picture.

Deals would also start at the same point. Just don't think the picture changes much.

By this logic every athlete should just sign long term as early as possible?

So do you think Matthews/Marner made mistakes even though they’re both in great leverage positions to get all time big $$ deals?

It's a trendy league. Suddenly went to big $ long term deals, to contentious 5/6 year deals and backloaded 3 year bridges, back to big $ long term deals again. Both sides seem happy with the status quo.

There is no right or wrong answer.

It’s all based on preference.

Should Tage be upset he extended as early as he did or you think he’s content with his millions of dollars in the bank account ?

Panic in Leaf land...

>>> It doesn’t sound like an eight-year deal between Matthews and the Maple Leafs is how this negotiation will shape itself out.

>>> Host Kevin Hayes has grown frustrated by the lack of commitment shown by Matthews, while guest Mike Johson and co-host Jamie McLennan both seemed to think a shorter deal might be the maximum term so that Matthews has options. They believe he wants to make the most possible money and choose his destination down the road.

>>> Already well paid at $11.6M on a five-year deal that ends at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, Matthews is looking at somewhere (according to the OverDrive panel) at around $13.5M-$14M on a three to five-year term. If accurate, that puts him in line to ask for another whopping amount of money at the end of that term and when the NHL salary cap is projected to jump millions from where it is right now.

>>> That too is problematic for the Leafs because if the OverDrive panel is correct and a shorter term is all Matthews is likely to sign, his desire to create flexibility and leverage suggests he’ll treat a potential trade the same way. On July 1, Matthews has all the say in where he winds up if he’s going to agree to a trade. And, if he’s unwilling to give back to Toronto in terms of a long-term commitment, what’s to say he won’t jam up the Leafs if and when it comes time to try and trade him?

or adin hill

or korpisalo

- homiedclown
