Still going to need a couple NHL capable depth D in Roch, like Clague, Davies, and Priskie this year. Might just be 2 instead of 3. - Lunaion

They used 11 D last season and that's not unusual.

KA should go after AND acquire the best RHD available on a 2 or 3 year contract (existing if traded, new if FA). That gives Johnson an opportunity to develop during that time to slot in at 2RhD at the time that player 's contract expires...maybe slide in at 3LD, then over to 3RD replacing Lyubushkin next season while Stillman man's 3LD. Johnson moves up to 2RD, while Novokov the takes 3RD.
Do it KA, do it. |

I'd say get the best guy and be willing to go longer term. Don't have to bank on Samuelsson + Johnson both in your top 4.
Feels like Ranger's syndrome is kicking in here (in general, not directed at you). All these prospects aren't going to pan out.

Green-Mitts-Savoie
Rousek-krebs-Okposo - DirtyDan
We shall see if Savoie is ready to initially perform full time at 3RW.
I don't believe he is ready at first, hence the rotational concept that Granato seems to favor in these cases.
I'd rather have Mitts on Cozens LW, Krebs playing 3C with JJP on his LW.
That pushes Greenway down to 4RW.
Additionally, Kulich and Savoie could then share that rotational 3RW...bringing along 3 rookies next season to accelerate development and be better prepared for '24-25 to do s9me real damage.
The timing of this is a thing of beauty. |

Agreed, but in my definion by all, we are speaking of far more than Johnson, Kulich and Savoie all of which are 1st rounders or "virtually" 1st rounders lol. Those guys should each have a very good chance of panning out. Also, one can always trade, sign a replacement in '25 offseason if Johnsone pans out to be a 3rd pairing guy. |

Great take.
Now Johnson or Tage needs to win the MVP trophy during a SC Championship run. - IonSabres
So if Jack wins the Cup, we will need to win two Cups and two Conn Smyth trophies? One for Tage/RyJo the other for Tuch/Krebs? But if Florida wins the Cup, then we need three cups? Tage/RyJo, Levi/Kulich and then Sardarian?
That third Conn Smyth is going to be tough. I'm rooting for Vegas now, for your happiness Ion. |

Good take.
But I'm rooting for the Panthers...and for Samson to get a couple, three big goals along the way |

So far the only bad move is resigning Okposo.
Curious to learn why Johnson delayed signing until now.

Just don't want to see them limit what they are looking at this summer.

Edit, I'm also waiting for Sam Bennet (my choice in that draft) to hammer Eichel several times..no injury, just lay him out. |

I do agree there...but if they think as highly as I do of Johnson, then it opens up some options they maybe weren't keen on before.
Ultimately, we want the same thing! |

Just have this fear that their mindset is small market development team, too timid to make a big move. Hope they break that this summer, but the path is there to just do minor things again.

Might not have to deal with it again for a while. JB loved college players. KA hates them and loves Russians.

Hey Michael,
You had mentioned over the past several days that the FO is interested in a Dmen who are strong in shutting down zone entries. Couple questions:
- what data sources/advanced analytics are used to determine this?
- who are guys that fit those parameters that are trade targets - IonSabres
Hey, both good questions!
- They have their own tracking data, and access to companies that do this as well. But i also suspect that once they narrow the list, a lot of in person/video scouting is done because it's a bit of subjective measure. The data says this person prevents zone entries but you wanna know how they're doing it to see if it's sustainable/replicable in your system
I unfortunately dont have access to said data so Id be relying on the tracking efforts of individuals who do it at smaller sample sizes but I do know Tanev is high on their list, which makes sense given his rep. |

They won't, the signing hasn't changed anything other than if they have to move someone like Jokiharju to get a top 4 d-man, it's now easier to do so. |

With Lybushkin here for one more year I would actually try to extend joker if you can get him at a good number. |

There's a split on what his value actually is to the team, but he's also the only one in the bottom 3 D who has any trade value.
Not saying this is what they'll do, but it presents an opportunity to address a need with found money. |
