I'm a big Peterka fan, but I'd make that deal, as I feel they need one more high end forward to complete that core, and being able to do that at the ability, age and contract of Keller would be too difficult to pass up. - kingcong39

We need help in net, at defense, and we need to get grittier. We're already the 3rd leading offense, while our 2nd and 3rd lines will improve and take the offense even higher. So the oblivious solution is to pay a kings ransom for Pettersson, then sign him to a contract bigger than any of the players we just signed. Priceless - Wanchuk

Why not make a strength an even greater strength? |

Just like the OBJ drama from von. I don’t expect Hopkins.
It’s just a story due to it being almost June and nothing to talk about. He isn’t coming unless we pay him. Which we don’t have the cap space |

Definitely be a interesting move, Cap hit isn't bad, especially if Olofsson and Mitts are both gone after this year. Basically covers Keller. |

Olofsson and then Okposo after this season covers it between the 2 of them. |

marginal utility. You're essentially trading a haul to get slightly better at something you are already good at instead of trading that haul to get good at something you are bad at it. |

Sabres could marginally do 2 hauls and still be in decent shape. |

I suspect they do whatever is necessary to bring in a proven goalie and will shop for other things. Whether they pull anything else off will be a mystery.
For me to say it’s a good offseason I need a workhorse or proven veteran goalie + a top 4 D.
Things get interesting at forward if they use 1-2 roster players (Mitts, Olo, Peterka, Krebs etc) to acquire said goalie or top 4 D.
That opens a spot for a forward acquisition |

Well, if the Bills can't afford him KC definitely can't. They have even less cap space than the Bills. And KC is really the only other team I'm concerned about in the AFC. Unless it's a one year deal it's not going to be the Bengals. They have ~$15M space this year, but Burrow and Chase both need new deals in the next 2 years. They're paying both ~$20M combined. Burrow alone will double that at least and Chase will get at least $20M himself. |

It would, but my understanding is thats not under consideration at this time. The guys they are targeting fit more into the Toews/Verhaege style of deals than anything that would require substantial assets being moved.
The wildcard is the goaltending though. Very hard to predict what might or might not get included in a deal since its a tough market to pin down. |

Really curious to see how they tackle it. Best trade opportunity is at the draft. If you wait and target UFA's, it can fall part fast.
I really want to see something done at the draft.

Given the extra draft pick in the top sixty id say thats a pretty safe bet. |

You'd think. Guess all Buffalo teams fight the temptation to use picks to trade up.

I cant speak for other sports but honestly 9/10 times trading down is the right call.
KA moved up for Peterka and I suspect if he feels one of his top 10 doesnt fall to 13 he may try to move up a spot or two.
My guess is still that one of the seconds gets moved for a d-man. |

I don't know, trading down in the NHL is so much different than the NFL. Most of these picks amount to nothing.
Move a 2nd++ to get a D is a strong option. Just don't want to see them wait til 7/1.

The general idea is after around pick 25, everyone's got similar odds at stardom within each round. Basically just lottery tickets, so go for quantity.
Yeah id be surprised if they left it to 7/1 unless some different names creep up. Or they pay a little more for a goalie early on. |

More bullets theory is good. Flip side is that these picks are over-valued, especially at the draft.
In the Sabres case, with an extra pick + cap space and a good young team, it screams trade for players.

yeah i dont dispute that for the sabres purposes, it has more value in trades, even the first, although I dont think any of the d-men available will cost that much tbh. |

What pairing do think he is best positioned to maximize his output? What do you notice you like most about his game vs the worst part? - washedup20
Severson isn't a top pair dman but is a good middle pair and very good bottom pair
Previously he was tasked with too much but handled it well, if in right position he is effective
He is a 2 way dman not an offensive dman but will help on offense but not a stay at home but is reliable and responsible for the most part |

Cap space is at a premium again, really is a great opportunity to make a big improvement. Little frustrated that they passed on it last year, now is the time.
