>>> Sabres sign Michael Carcone to a one-year, $950k contract
I only made one free agent signing and it was a depth move. Carcone has bounced around the league but spent the last two years in the Arizona Coyotes organization. He led the AHL in scoring this season with 31 goals and 85 points in 65 games for the Tucson Roadrunners.
The 27-year-old just won a Gold Medal with Canada as part of the Men’s World Championship team. He registered three goals and six points in 10 games.
>>> Elliotte Friedman mentioned on the 32 Thoughts podcast that he’ll be looking for an opportunity for NHL ice time next season. I feel the Sabres can offer him that and afford to pay a little over-market value to make sure they get him. If he doesn’t work out at the NHL level, he can be an offensive weapon for the AHL.
I’m going to save an in-depth look at Carcone for an upcoming free-agent profile.
Based on conversations I’ve had, this is the type of player the Sabres will be targeting at forward. A low-key depth addition. If they can’t secure that, they’ll likely just promote players such as Rousek and Kulich. - kingcong39
How is this better than promoting one of the AHL guys that the organization invested time and money into developing?
It's an odd move, what is the upside here?

Instigators had a good point when discussing Savoie, injecting him to the Amerks lineup that was winning was a bad move.
They think it pissed off the players who were succeeding, and changing the roster while winning in the playoffs is a bad choice. They say other organizations are bringing down NHL players to compete at this stage, Savoie had no reason to be out there other than to push this "savior" style of player (remind you of Eichel anyone?). |

Waaaaaaay too early to make this distinction. Would it surprise anyone if he became a 30 goal scorer in this league? |

It is absurd to compare Eichel's arrival with Savoie's as Savoie was never touted as a savior (nor we need one now). There was absolutely no harm in giving him a spot that went to an AHL vet (I wouldn't have taken out Cederqist). He isn't the reason that they've been outplayed. If anything they need more puck carriers in this series as we can't get to the net. |

I'm halfway through the pod rn.
Think they went off the handle a little bit. There's nothing wrong with getting Savoie a couple games. It becomes a problem if he's absolutely sinking and they force him to continue to play.
Petey is only mad that the Amerks lost. They got bodied and goalied for 3 games straight, with or without Savoie.
I don't see the entitlement like they(he) do. He's an excellent player and he was still benched. They needed offense and nobody got it done.
Also, Parayko's contract, woof. I'm not trading Joker straight up for him. Neither are the Blues, probably. |

It doesn't matter. Chris Drury would have done a better job handling this situation. |

The mindset between how the org/fans view Eichel vs Savoie is the brighest day/darkest night kind of contrast.
Everyone and their mother said Eichel was the savior. Now, everyone believes Savoie is a talented complimentary piece that will be eased into the pro ranks in the next 16 months.

I personally like Pierre Engvall.
Could run Engvall-Krebs-Okposo as your fourth line but Engvall has the utility to play on lines 2 through 4 in case of injury or potential sophomore slumps.
He’d be my depth add if they even make an addition to the forward ranks. - Swedish_Jesus

I could see it messing up the chemistry or whatever you've got going on, but if it pisses players off that they are bringing in guys when available in a developmental league then those guys need to readjust their attitude. This is the only shot we had to see what Savoie can do at that level (turns out it's not really much). |

I'm turning into the UPL and Savoie apologist, but what did we expect having a guy play out of position, in the conference finals of the AHL playoffs, against a Hershey team that likes to take runs, in his pro debut?
He played scared, made mistakes and caught the pine within 2 games. Sounds about par for the course IMO.
Worse, I think you're right about chemistry where it could affect things. Also agree those players need an attitude check, but for a guy like Cederqvist who worked his tail off all year, I would get it. |

Its the AHL. Prospects are playing over vets all of the time - that's the way it works. There is no reason that it should change in the playoffs.
For the record, I thought Savoie really showed some good jump in his limited playing time. The bigger problem is that they can't sniff the net.

It’s nice to hear a players perspective.
I interpreted them using the savior statement as an indictment of how few quality prospects have jumped into Rochester the last decade (except for the last 2 seasons).
I like the Parayko idea. Gives snarl and locked in term in the price range Adams likes. His game has gone down the toilet since the Blues collapsed. |

That ideology should be tossed out the window at this stage of the playoffs. Is seeing what Savoie has for a game or 2 worth more than the rest of the prospects winning a championship? |

"the rest of the prospects" is a group of 3 or 4 players.

He may be a big out to left field it seems sometimes but Peters has some pretty good ties and sources with that team.
He likes to nonchalantly drop little nuggets but ya gotta listen for it. |

His offensive game sure, but his defense is still quality. Him, like Weeger, are pretty serious long term commitments into their later 30's. Not sure it's a great idea.
