He's big on analytics too. Was my top choice if going with a new HC but I think it's become pretty clear that this organization wants a veteran coach. Perhaps they think a new coach would have trouble getting through to our high-end vets.
Lavs isn't super exciting but he's been my top choice of the retreads from day 1. Will it work? Who knows but he has a track record of getting a lot out of his teams in the early seasons and I think that's what Dolan/Drury want. If they brought in a coach that they need to give a few years Drury could be out of a job by the time the new guy gets his feet under him.
I don't necessarily agree with that approach but it's the way the business goes. Guys looking out for their own jobs. Same reason we get frustrated when coaches don't have a long-term view of developing players - SkjeiStadium

He looks the Character "Powder".
But... He's American and from Rhode Island. Rangers have hired a coach like before... Just saying. |

Yea no, with Lav available, thats who we go for. Just like how I felt about Quinn, Hynes would be the wrong hire for where this team currently is. |

There’s no way drury survives the firing of our next head coach without a cup |

You have to assume whoever they bring in lasts atleast 2 years. This team could have a very different look and perspective after those 2 years.
Panarin and Trouba will be in the final years of their contract and Shesty will be a free agent. Kreider will be going into the final 2 years of his contract.
In those 2 years I think we will have a definitive answer on the futures of LAF, Kakko and Chytil. Goodrow may or may not be here.
Theres going to be a lot going on after those 2 years. We could be looking at a very different direction of the franchise. |

I don’t even think goodrow will be here next season let alone in 2. There’s really no where else to shed space

I have a feeling the whole bottom 6, aside from maybe Vesey, might get gutted and redone. If you look at the teams that are thriving and having success, they are physical, never stop moving their feet and are constantly hounding the net. They keep it simple.
I believe Goodrow is a player like that, unfortunately he got the contract he did. Im optimistic for Cuylle and Othmann as they seem like they could fit that mold. I sadly dont feel as confident with LAF, however as Ive said before, you gotta give him a chance with another coach and maybe we could get something out of him. Trochek should be our 3C and Chytil needs to play 2C. If Chytil cant play 2C then he needs to go. |
