5 years is not interesting for mtl
dont fall in love with your players (see Bergevin and Gallagher) - deadpoulet
I was talking about how interested Montembeault would be in such a deal, I agree the habs shouldn't be giving him too much long-term. |

of course he would, there is not an NH team that would give him such a deal either, that was my point
3 years around 3,5M would already be a great deal for him
I still see him as a stop gap untill mtl come up with a solution for once they will be a contender for the cup. By the time that happens, he will be over 30. |

unless he surprises everyone by bringing up his game another notch and staying consistent, at some point if he continues to play well he should be considered a legit #1 goalie. I don't necessarily see this happening but it sure would be great.

He;s a good 1B and since the Habs aren't "there" yet, I'm ok with him taking more responsibilties.
I would like to see a tandem of him and Primeau. Not sure Prims's got what it needs to be an NHL goalie but it's time to see if he does or not. |

So we trade Allen and roll with Montembault and Primeau? I honestly wouldn't mind but it would weaken us at the goaltender position on the short term for sure.

Montembault at 3.5M until he's 31 is not a problem.
It would give us a good option in net and if we find someone better than him along the way, great. We have a great backup for 3.5M.
Sign him for 5 years 3.5M, he says yes because that's a great deal for him and we're happy because he's good enough to be worth that money.
If you don't do this now and he has a similar/better season next year, you're stuck with giving him more money if you wanna keep him around.

its that or they might lose him for nothing. He would be more a throw away in a package than anything else. Not much value for now
allen is getting older and older anyway
anyway, mtl should keep drafting goalies here and there |

Hrabal or Gajan in Montreal! I have a good feeling it happens!

It might weaken us. The way I see it? If/when Primeau sucks, we'll be able to add a 1B vet. Allen is declining and IMO is easily replacable. |

maybe or it could be a fart coming up
what do you think mtl will do with that late first round pick? trade him for a player already in NHL or maybe just moving up a little in the draft? |

a third round pick
I read the Flyers are looking for a first round pick and a top prospect if they trade Hart |

It's very hard to predict.
Would that pick (now basically a 2nd round pick) be enough to be an important piece in a Dubois trade?
Do you package both the Habs 2nd and Florida's first to move up? Maybe, depends who's still available at the rank we're aiming to move up.
If I had to choose, I think they end up trading that pick either for Dubois or another young player that's slightly older and they hold onto their own 2nd round pick to draft a player or a goalie.

They probably won't get both.
But a first and a decent prospect? Perhaps.

Hart is still young, unless he really wants out of PHI they don't have to trade him either, I'm sure with a better team in front of him he'd automatically be better... I doubt he's considered as being part of the "problem" anyway.

He's 24, which is only 2 years younger than Montembault who's been just as good last season (if not better).
I always liked Hart, I think he has alot of the tools needed to excel at the goaltending position but he's always played behind a terrible team or was just too young to play in the NHL at first.
I'd be very interested in having him on my team. Price had similar struggles in his career before turning 25 and absolutely dominate the league, similar situation could happen with Hart. |

I'm sure Hughes will or maybe already has been looking into it, if the asking price makes sense for the habs then Hart should definitely be considered as an option... |

I would hang up the phone right away if they want the 5th overall, but the florida pick
+ a prospect could be a good deal.
or they could be more patient and keep drafting goalies as well. |

oh, either way they need to keep drafting goalies, they take so much time and effort to develop, and it's always so uncertain how they'll turn out that ideally you need to have a couple of decent prospects in the pipeline at all times...

a player I was wondering about is Jesper Bratt. The Devils are looking to get a first round pick this year. He had back to back season of 73 pts, he is 24 years old and a RFA that the Devils may or may nor sign back.
He is a midget of 5'10 and Fido would lose his mind, but still |

ça dépend desquels beau brun
en général oui, mais pas si c'est un jeune Carey Price ou un jeune gardien avec beaucoup de potentiel
like Pat said, the Flyers really dont have to trade Hart, not this summer anyway |

I cannot see the Devils moving on from Bratt. I know they have alot of money to spend with Meier's ridiculous contract structure but Bratt is a guy they developped and who has been better every year.
