They'd be saving money but they'd have a 1.6M cap hit next year they wouldn't have if they just wait it out.
Unless we need the cap space this season for another move, I don't see why they'd do it.

I agree.
But I can see people, in the moment, get frustrated and then that lingers or leaves bad vibes in the room.
Just saying, if they do not think there is a problem, then you do not buy him out. If they even think there may be a hint of a problem, do whatever to get him out of the organization.

I guess it depends how bad they think his lack of effort/work ethic might be affecting the team, and to what extent they want to open up a roster spot for younger guys...
