You really think that? That hasn't been my experience. The narrative seems to be changing a little bit but I feel like the talking heads did nothing but rip on Shanny for the first week. And perhaps deservedly. But Dubas seemed more portrayed the victim of a bad decision. Siegel and Mirtle are still getting ripped in their comments section b/c every piece they put out is viewed as pro-dubas.
I don't have a horse in this fight ...I kinda liked them both and blame the players and Keefe for the playoff defeats. But, this idea of the media favouring Shanny over Dubas is b.s. in my view.
Also it's hard to know exactly what happened but Shanny described his meeting on Sunday as a "framework" as you say but he also described it as "a finished deal that reflected what he wanted financially and what he wanted as a GM which is what was important to him,"
The narrative and what gets reported (even by HB posters) is too often bent by bias. - The Law
I think Shanahan was ripped more by the Athletic and the sports correspondents on TSN and Sportsnet initially - but the broadcast networks softened their positions surprisingly quickly while other outlets like the Athletic didn't.
Now I just like to say - and I've said it before - that I did like Dubas, but I'm not averse to the change per se (I'm really not sold on Treliving; I think he has a few good trades and a couple of not so good trades, but on balance better more often than worse; his traceable draft record (2014-16) is not bad at all, but since 2017 it looks less clear; his FA work has been scarier - longer term deals to guys 29 and 30), but I just didn't like the process by which it occurred. I think personally I would have liked it better if the team had just outright decided that he hadn't accomplished enough and moved on rather than issue him an offer and then retract it - for other reasons - when he wanted to alter the terms.
To that end, I think Shanny felt it was done - but he said those conversations happened with Dubas' agent moreso than Dubas. Even if that happens exactly as stated: "We talked about a $4m deal x 5 years with x, y and z - there's your $4m deal x 5 years with x, y and z" -- "I think I'd like to go with $6m instead and w, x, y and z."
Your responses here typically would be:
- The terms were set. we're not changing them now. You can decline the offer if you don't like it and we can part ways
- How about $5m, and we stick with x, y and z - I'm not comfortable with condition w, or
- Ok
I can't think of a condition where the response there is simply, "You're fired."
And that is, at the gist of everything, the only part of this that bothers me. Until names are signed on the dotted lines, contracts are negotiations. Once you shake hands and walk away to draw it up - you should not change your mind. I did not get the impression they were _there_.

I agree with it all ...that's why I don't think this was a decision based on $$ or control.
Something(s) about the Monday presser brought new concerns. Then we're told that they met Wednesday and discussed everything. For me that must have included a discussion about whatever concerned Shanny. That meeting didn't go well. Thursday the counter offer ...and then a late day email "I want to come back". The email's weird to me.
I think the Sun-Thur uncertainty was just enough for the other side to say 'you know what ...you're great but we've changed our minds'. |

This is why Shanahan needed to be fired.
Another puppet who didn't do poop in his previous job.
Just experienced enough to complete tasks given to him by Shanahan but not actually good enough to make this team a legit contender.
This team is going in the absolute wrong direction and probably will be plunged into a full rebuild when this failed experiment runs it's course. |

Dubas indicated the new offer wasn't the 11th hour in that statement he released. He mentioned, "reasonable and consistent" when talking about Shanahan. Which is what leads me to believe Shanahan knew all along about the ask from Dubas. I think he used it as his scapegoat for whatever reasons he has. Be it the presser or just not wanting to work with him anymore.
We will never truly know at this time but it seems we have a new guy to all hate. At least Treliving has worked in Canada already so Toronto shouldn't be too much worse than Calgary.

Hopefully Treleving likes Schenn.
And also doesn't like goals seeping through the Holl in the defense. - GreatGigInTheSky
Based on history, Tri is a big defense guy.
One thing the past several (and most throughout history) cup finalist teams have had is size and 1 or 2 top 2men. Time to get bigger and meaner on the backend |

Do carberry helped the leafs have one of the best pps in the league
two seasons under Spencer Carbery's guidance, the Toronto Maple Leafs' power-play was second-best in the NHL (26.6%).
Only the Edmonton Oilers' was better over that span (29.4%). |

Interested in how many coaches he went through ?? Sutter, Ward, the Peters disaster … Gulutzan …
He seems to make some odd choices… and there is really no excuse for Peters -
Not sure this is the right guy to choose the next head coach of the preeminent team in Canada - |
