You know if Steve Simmons is a fan of the move, its a bad move.

I thought it was great that Shanny told the reporters exactly what happened. There was no dirty laundry just the chain of events of what happened. If Shanny gets up there and ate nothing then the endless media speculation starts, and the complaints that they are secretive, yadda yadda yadda. Honestly there is no winning with the Toronto media or fans, so at least we know and for me that’s good. He was sincere and to me tried to be respectful and at the same time lay out the facts.
- Bullot

Well he told them 'his version' of what happened and I have a hard time agreeing it's 'exactly' what happened. Generally the truth is somewhere in the middle of 2 versions of a story where there is some conflict or disagreement and we really only got Shanny's (MLSE's) side of the full story.

When was the last time you heard ANY organization lay out that detailed sequence of events with respect to a personnel move? I can't recall one - ever. And in my experience when people put that much effort into details it's often a sign of deception.

I don't think I can get back to where I was with respect to feeling good about Shanny at the helm - the only thing he can do to get me back is for the Leafs to win a cup! Come on Shanny win my heart back! lol

Doesn't matter - Shanny has a new human shield for us all to hate if he fails.

Tree-Living today - Tree-dead if Shanny needs some cover!

That is fair of signings, but trades and drafting dont look good either.

I think the scouting division in Toronto is probably best in the league. I’m willing to give Tree an open mind for just over a month! His plate is full for the next month, and we will see very shortly what he’s made of.

Do carberry helped the leafs have one of the best pps in the league

two seasons under Spencer Carbery's guidance, the Toronto Maple Leafs' power-play was second-best in the NHL (26.6%).

Only the Edmonton Oilers' was better over that span (29.4%).

- Fakepartofme

While definitely moving up a step under Carberry, The PP has typically been one of the better ones since the arrival of Matthews, Marner and Nylander:

22-23: 26% (2nd)
21-22: 27.3% (1st)
20-21: 20% (16th)
19-20: 23.1% (6th)
18-19: 21.8% (8th)
17-18: 25% (2nd)

I'd like to see improvement in the Penalty Kill:

22-23: 81.9% (12th)
21-22: 82.1% (8th)
20-21: 78.5% (25th)
19-20: 77.7% (21st)
18-19: 79.9% (18th)
17-18: 81.4% (11th)

BTW, 2020-21 is such a screwed up year, but in that year you could legitimately point out that the Leafs had the worst penalty kill in the Canadian division and the 3rd PP in that division - since that's all they played all year.

not even about that, its just whats the point of replacing someone with someone ...who is not a clear improvement or may be worse.

but since 2018, the Leafs draft picks have played 386 games to Calgary's 26

What great measure are we going to use to determine who is better or not?
If it's wins, do we go by regular season, or playoffs?

The tree guy hasn't even sat in the chair yet.
What point is there comparing apples and oranges?
WTF did Kyle Dubas ever win in Toronto?

I was pro Dubus myself before his press conference. I was pretty much on the fence after it. It reminded me of watching Jagmeet Singh (who I once voted for), cry on camera. Put me in the frame of mind, "I still like you, and would hire you in a second to do a job that needed a thoughtful, from the heart type of leadership, but you just totally ruined my confidence (and probably your chance at the job), in you being a Prime Minister".

That's the sort of thought that was probably going through Shanahan's mind. It's not like he didn't get the time crunch the team was under. He was under one himself... had to sign a GM he was willing to bet his reputation on before June.

Besides, other than Dreger, has anyone even confirmed the hire?
Maybe it's on an interim basis?

Definitely not the best in the league. When was the last time they hit big on a lower picks?

Sure Knies looks good, but other then that? Their goalie drafting has been attrocious.

Terliving won less, in more time in Calgary. The hire was also confirmed by Seravelli

I'm not too worried about his drafting resume.

His trades and UFA signing though? Some of them are brutal.

That Kadri deal isn't gonna look good... well ever.

- Scabeh

He has some bad trades, obviously, but he has some gems in there. I'm with you - his UFA signings are just bloody awful. Lots of term and dollars to guys on the wrong side of their prime.

drafting is more on the scouts. and TOR has more resources. Also Bennett, Tkachuk, Fox were pretty good choices
- drexel

I think that was the Canes pick they add to the trade

Calgary drafted Fox in the 3rd round. He made it known he wasn't going to sign with them, and I think he may have even stipulated he wanted to sign with the Rangers. He was included in the deal with Carolina because Carolina was going to try and sign him but if they couldn't, they knew they could flip him - which they did for a 2nd and a 3rd. Fox was smart asset management for both Calgary and Carolina since he was an appreciating asset that you could never use.

maybe

Elliotte Friedman on SN590: Much more likely than not Keefe will be the Leafs coach as of right now. Shanahan told prospective GM's that he was happy with Keefe and would like to keep him but ultimately GM's call. Very few candidates, if any, objected.

Sure, but look at this trades and drafting....it all sucks. Again, what has he done well besides overpaying 3rd liners? poop didnt he trade Hamilton for poop all too? He literally sucks at everything.

The only trade he ever won was trading Rittich to the Leafs for a 3rd.

So he was able to rob dubas?

I am hoping that the prestige of coaching a talented and top-10 original 6 team in Canada lends itself to better options than Calgary was getting when it none of those things.

He inherited Bob Hartley. He signed Gulutzan and you could argue that he was due even though he'd been mediocre at best in Dallas, but he just didn't work out as a head coach. Bill Peters was successful as a racist coach until it was known he was a racist coach. That's gotta count for something . . . Geoff Ward was underqualified, but I think he ended up getting it by default.

And we all hate Sutter, but he did have a very successful season two years ago but that is an act that gets older faster than Keenan's and that says something!

Note that Hits Taken isn't always an indicator of who will take a hit to make a play, but also guys who are in areas to be hit and guys who the opposition may feel they can throw off if they hit them more. Or in the playoffs defense, since it's considered strategically advantageous to hammer the defense every chance you get and try to tire them out.

Thanks for that. I am quite surprised by some of the results
