Elliotte Friedman on SN590: Much more likely than not Keefe will be the Leafs coach as of right now. Shanahan told prospective GM's that he was happy with Keefe and would like to keep him but ultimately GM's call. Very few candidates, if any, objected.

That would be surprising to say the least.
Keefe getting the boot was the one thing I was convinced was gonna happen, even if Dubas stayed. |

not really, a new GM usually needs 1 bullet loaded in the chamber ready to fire with the first chance things start to go off the rails.
but more changes seem likely if Dubas stayed...now they seem less likely? |

Except I don't expect Keefe to have a bad season next year.... getting outcoached in the playoffs however, I'd fully expect that to happen again.

We don't agree on Dubas.
But on Shanahan being ass backwards is where we do agree. Shanahan is clearly interested in calling the shots here. He's shaping the GM candidates thinking about Keefe, and he called the core and told them they are returning. If all this reporting is accurate, Shanny clearly is looking for a puppet GM. From this point forward, I'm considering Brendan Shanahan to be the true GM of this team.
Of course the new GM is going to agree with Shanny re Keefe. For one, Shanny is the boss. And two, it gives the new GM a bullet/layer of protection if things go sideways. You can always fire the coach who wasn't your choice to buy time.
This group desperately needs a core shakeup, AND a new voice behind the bench. However it really looks it's going to be run this mother(frank)er back. Again. |

I think the main thing I have taken from the last week on this board is that we really have no clue what happened in the Dubas negotiations. Yet some people are willing to fall on their sword to keep arguing their side is fact or even likely. I do not think anyone has had a terrible take on what MIGHT have happened because who knows.
Doesn't Trevling's dad have contacts on the MLSE board? Could it be Shanny actually liked having Dubas as his GM because it was somewhat easier to exercise some control over him than someone like Lou? Perhaps Shanny really did go to bat for Dubas in March and put himself on the line a bit because maybe the board were leaning no extension. Perhaps Shanny knows the board is looking for a reason to dump Dubas and suggests he not speak publicly. Dubas does and the board starts questionning Shanny. Then Dubas meets with others to see how he can "streamline decisions", and finally the contract requests.
Shanny is like what the (frank), feels blindsided after going to bat for Dubas and the board decides see yah Dubas. Shanahan is told to get rid of him and in this instance is a puppet of the board.
All of that is plausible. Then again maybe Shanny just got pissed (whether his reasons were valid or not we do not know), and decided to drop Dubas.
I liked Dubas. Thought he evolved and am not convinced there was a better GM available.
My point is we do not (frank)ing know. |

His coaching hires have been atrocious-

Sutter, who was forced upon him, was apparently a main reason why Treliving fired the Flames. |

Based on history, Tri is a big defense guy.
One thing the past several (and most throughout history) cup finalist teams have had is size and 1 or 2 top 2men. Time to get bigger and meaner on the backend - Fakepartofme
Looking like he's not gonna have much to do with it yet, unless he makes a trade to send someone out. Since we already got 6 signed and the 7th should be Schenn. |

The best thing for the Leafs would be if a team in our division is stupid enough to sign him.
The Leafs would absolutely feast on his slow ass. |

Treliving fired the Flames. It was his decision to walk away. |

Really? The Flames wanted him back but let him walk and then will let him sign with another team before the draft?

Oh this isn't an improvement.
Not a big fan of Treliving... Silver lining is that it could have been much worse. - Scabeh
Only good thing about this. Which, really, might've been their plan.
They knew they (frank)ed up and the fans, for the most part, didn't agree with Brendan's Shananigan's. So they leaked that they were interviewing the apparent only guy they wanted to hire, plus 3-5 of the absolute worst GM's of the past 8 years.
And when they don't hire those other bozos, the fans are "happy" about it. |
