We don't see anything of the day-to-day duties of a GM. By all accounts he's really good at all the executive stuff. - Zezel
I mean it was under Shanahan and Lou, but he did, as I understand it, develop and start the analytics department, the sports sciences department and improve a lot of the executive communications and relationships that are critical to getting interdepartmental work going (get scouting working with development, get development working with coaching, get players working with development coaches, sports science input, and nutrition experts, and blah, blah, blah).
Having the Leafs' money makes the ability to establish the best at these doable. Hopefully they continue it. I'd expect in Pittsburgh they are going to want to try and do some similar things, but given their financial constraints, it will be quite different.

Funny that's what I was thinking I'd do if I was him. Pittsburgh has a lot of higher end contracts, the need to move some out, the need to delicately manage money and they aren't an overly rich organization? You need a guy like that to help you ensure you're squeezing those pennies! |

Well as GM he was..... decent. Made some good moves. Managed to keep things under the cap which wasnt hard. But nothing earth shattering. 7 out of 10 maybe?

Dubas being Pres means Pridham can leave as GM. He couldn't leave to an AGM job. It's easily lined up. |

He did that as GM????
Sorry, i dont think so. Thats not really even in the scope of GM. - prock
He absolutely did. You need to learn what a GM does.
"It was Dubas, then the assistant GM to Lamoriello, who oversaw the addition of Jeremy Bettle and the creation of a sports science department. It was Dubas, with the support of head coach Sheldon Keefe, who oversaw the expansion of a skill development program that allowed players to hone their abilities throughout the season.
Auston Matthews and John Tavares, in particular, have raved about the operation. Players like Conor Timmins spent morning after morning with skating coach Paul Matheson while skill development consultants like Denver Manderson joined the team for skill sessions on the road. The Leafs even brought their practice goalie, Andrew D’Agostini, on road trips, even the long ones, to spare their regular goaltenders some wear and tear.
That didn’t exist in the pre-Dubas era. There was no “process” in place, an organization-wide way of doing things that trickled down from the top into every corner of the organization. Information was more siloed in the Lamoriello days. After Dubas became GM that changed. Staff members from the research and development departments started attending practice regularly. The dress code was relaxed. Players and staff were free to sport facial hair and felt more comfortable being themselves.
They saw Dubas pouring everything he had into the organization. They saw that he watched as much or more video than many of his own scouts. That he pursued relationships and information from people in other sports and businesses, anything to push the Leafs forward." |

Not very good trade deadline moves other than this past year. Which I thought was a great. |

Teams can't deny employees from seeking advancements. Dubas didn't want to GM anywhere else. And he didn't! |

If he even wants to be a GM. When I suggested maybe Prindham would be a good GM candidate for the leafs, some people jumped down my throat asking for proof of where Prindham has ever shown an interest in being GM.
I just assumed that would be the next progression |

One thing to watch with Brad Treliving about to officially be unveiled as #leafs GM: Sources say that he won't be a full participant at the upcoming NHL Draft as part of the conditions placed by the Flames while granting him permission to speak with Toronto about the position.
You whiners who like to complain about drafting can't put this draft on Treliving |

This is entertaining.
People were up in arms when Dubas was hired.
I seriously can't understand the level of complaining and the somehow in depth knowledge of what has gone on behind the scenes. - Santo_44
I suspect people are projecting their own immaturity into fantasy scenarios where the people involved are imbeciles who make emotional decisions whilst slinging from the hip. |

You domt think the Leafs have always had skill coaches? Youre def wrong on that. As example, kaating coach Paul Matheson, that you point out, was preceded by barb underhill, i beleive, and that was wayyyyy before dubas. Theyve had skill coaches for dexades. The leafs have been working on using financial leverage for a long time (trying to gain advantages that they lost becausenof cap). The centre for excellence they built, all that stuff, its been going in That direction a long time.

They mentioned this in the presser. He has restrictions on this years draft and made not have influence on it. Brenden said they have full trust in their Head scout and team and the work they've done for the draft.
Dubas may have the same type of restriction. May have. |

Hot take :
The Leafs would have been better off if they fired Shanahan and offered Dubas president of hockey operations. - joel878
So glad Dubas is gone. It will be fun to watch the Leafs destroy the Pens over the next few years. |
