Shanny wanted someone knew how to deal with interventionist owners, was prepared to make big deals and would be an experienced guy who could provide new eyes on the team. Being buds with Tannenbaum doesn’t hurt.

My opinion on Treliving could change depending on how the Leafs do in next years playoffs..

I do wonder what happens with Keefe?

Does Treliving keep him on and let go of him if the Leafs struggle early? Or does he make a move for a new coach this off-season?

Also, I've said it before, frequently a GM who helped create a team isn't there for the win when it happens. Leafs could keep a similar recipe to this year and have a different result and Treliving will get all the credit that Shanahan allows him

Babcock couldn’t get a job anywhere else. It had nothing to do with still being paid by the leafs. Apparently he has had interviews recently but still hasn’t landed a job.

It had everything to do with the leafs paying him. He can’t take pay from the leafs AND another NHL team, he would need permission from the Leafs, at which point they would stop paying him his $6mil a year.

Very much agreed.

I still think Keefe should've been canned the second they changed their minds on Dubas.

But I wouldn't hate seeing him coach when his "guys" are taken from him.
