I ma not talking about moving out of the top 10, I am talking moving down a few spots, if the return is valuable.

Will all come down to if they think the Russian is worth the pick at #5.

And if not, they might be able to get the guy they want at 6 or 7 or 8 or 9.

- Mashadar

yes, let say the guy they want is ranked 7th or 8th. they trade down a few spots, and see a team pick him at 6th? not worth it.
unless the guy is ranked 12th or 15th, then there's a good chance he'll be there at 7.
that scenario is very unlikely imo, the guy they would have at the top of their list is most probably ranked in the top 10, so you pick him at 5, unless a team is ready to give you the moon for pick #5 which is unlikely.
usually when you trade down it's because you know the guy you want will be available later on. not much differences between #5 and #7.

Love Goalfield but with what we heard last year when they pick Slaf, they seem to be worried with too many small guys. They've seen what all offense and no talented guys that can grind in the playoffs does, I think they will want to add a talented competitor that can go in the corners, play 200ft and score. For me Leonard is that guy.

if they are moving Eddy, what will they get for an often injured LHD with 1yr left on his deal? Is a 2nd even realistic at this point?

I would think so yes, especially if they retain some $$

is it better to use salary retention on Hoffman to unload him or to move Eddy with salary retention for most likely better value than Hoffman. How badly do they want Hoffman out?

I don't think you can move Hoffman, even with 50% retained. maybe at the tdl, not even sure.

I get what you are saying, but I think you always go BPA and sort things out after

that being said, I dont really know these guys, hard for me to say who is BPA. We dont know who will be here or not at 5 either

yeah, I doubt they could this summer, he is better suited for the TDL with 50% retention...and even then unless he has a good season

the only possibility is that they literally give him away while retaining 50%, let say for a 7th round pick. telling the buyer that he will be able to flip him at the tdl, while retaining another 25%, for a much better pick than the 7th they gave up front.

of course, that was just my opinion, I have no clue what their draft list looks like and how they see the Russian situation.

I was just thinking about what we saw last year in the Habs draft video, they spent a lot of time talking about character and size. Leonard is 5'11" but plays bigger and all scouts keep saying he never stops working, he is one of those guys you know he will show up when needed.

I think teams will back off because of his back (lol, I wanted to say that)

maybe at the TDL if he can stay healthy and play here and there

yeah, any team trading for him will want to see his medical file.

and Eddy has a NTC with 10 teams he won't accept a trade to

I don't think the NTC is a problem

why would a rebuilding team trade a pick for him? and why would he vetoed a trade to a playoffs team?

I dont mind him in a lesser role untill the TDL. But he might have to play on the right side to get in the line up, unless injuries happen all over the place once again
