It is just not just the goalie when it comes to out put. The team only had three players over 20 goals and under 30. No player had more than 66 points. Only two players were above 60 points. Only six players above 50 points. But they had twelve players with 10 or more goals.

Compare that to Edmonton who had three players over 100 points. Toronto four players over 80 points and four players with 30 goals or more.

I do not want the Islanders to be the Leafs, but they do need more speed and skill if they are to be a legit Cup contender. They need more offense from the defense and cannot just use the 3 forwards.

They just signed Barzal to a big extension. I can't recall a single time a team has signed a player to a major extension and then unexpectedly traded him before the NTC kicked in. I wouldn't bank on it unless Barzal asks to be moved.

Wouldn't be the best look for trying to get players to sign here in the future. "Sign long term with us and maybe we'll pull the rug out from under you when you least expect it"

He is a world class talent.

And seemingly needing some better line-mates and some guidance on how to best utilize his talents. Whenever I watch him I see a puck hog. I see a guy who has the ability to skate it up ice, wind around and around the zone and never accomplish much. Both teams just kind of stop and watch him skate around with the puck. He's not quite the turnover machine Jason Spezza was...but we are paying 9.1 million for a 60 point player, who doesn't distribute the puck well enough to warrant that money. His possession numbers must be crazy good....but the offense he generates isn't. He's like a forward version of Eric Karlsson. But he needs the sniper to feed it to. DeBrincat? Ovechkin? Someone who will stand in one spot and know eventually Matty is gonna stop circling and pass it....HERE--BAM.

There are things Barzal needs to do to clean up his game, but he does not have the best pieces surrounding him. He needs another good skater with skill that can keep up with him. Hopefully Bo and Barzal can work well this year.

Only way I see the Isles being able to land DeBrincat (or any other goal scorer) is if they center a package around Noah Dobson and I'm not sure how I'd feel about that.

He had a tough season especially during the second half and the playoffs but it would be Toews trade level of dumb to trade him. Find another way to make something happen or inevitably blow it up next offseason(I know lameriello wont do it but he should).

Was interested in him I believe before he signed his last contract due to his pp production. Next year is his contract year so I’m sure he’ll put up some decent numbers. If it were possible to get him fairly cheap it may be a decent add that is actually possible for us.

Would depend on what he signed for, but the thought crossed my mind. That would require either Aho to flip over to the right side, be a 7th defenseman, or be traded though. OEL plays the left side. It would have some PK implications though. He's not exactly a defensive wizard and you'd be losing Mayfield on the kill.

I would assume he won't be asking for a ton of money with some pretty significant buyout payments heading his way, but it'd have to be pretty low.

Yes it would have to be at a friendly cap hit. I figured that since the team is competitive he may be willing to take less to fit in. Horvat might be able to lure him over. I was also thinking about him more on the offensive side of things than defense. A puck moving defenseman.
