I asked him that this past season but he would not provide specific examples. Let's say they put someone like Jackson Cates on the 4th and he is getting the 8 minutes a game. Do the Flyers or Cates benefit from that? MJL will then complain that the Flyers aren't using him properly and archaic Torts the dinosaur doesn't know how to utilize the younger players. - Don Nachbaur
lol. A prospect like brink should be at least on the 3rd line. And imo we need the safety nets to make sure we are developing the right way. no need to destroy a players confidence. Minus elliot or wisdom (who i don't think is ready), i wouldn't want the prospects to be stapled to the bench or playing 6-8 a night, getting caved.
i know he was injured (again) but tanner looked horrible last year. would rather have lemeiux playing over him.

There is no reason not to play young players on the 4th line. There should be an open competition for ice time and a spot on the team between young players. There is no need to keep 4th line scrubs in the lineup. Players like Deslauriers and Lemieux should be jettisoned. - MJL
I just replied to another post before seeing this. I asked you this during the season and you only reply with something like "any younger players." Do you think guys like Jackson Cates would benefit from playing 8 minutes a night under Tyrannosaurus Torts? We aren't going to be a contender for a few years, so why not let the younger players get quality minutes with the Phantoms?

The flyers could role out a more skilled younger 4th line if they choose to. Now we all know the coach will not do that as he is set on what he wants for a 4th line. Cliff knows this yet keeps saying play the young guys and refuses to name said young guys.
Not that I would though brining back BL on a 1 year 1 million per deal will not kill you as he can be wiaved with zero consequence.

that is Elliot who i referred too. the ones who i think will be called up.
tyson has a shot to make the team out of camp, elliot with a chance to steal the 4c spot or be a call up who stays, and brink as a call up. then lyksell. maybe brink and Ollie are changeable.
jackson cates lost his position before and willman is just a temp fill in if needed.
Until Cutter comes out of college at the end of the year, those are the callups or the ones competing for a spot imo.

or possible traded at the deadline if he continues to play the way he did at the end of the year.

I would imagine that to be the case. I'm guessing that Tony told Torts to flip off and that's why he didn't play the last 5 games of the season or whatever. I mean, they dressed 5 defenders the one game to keep him out of the lineup. Buh bye turd! Angelo seems like a self entitled jerkoff that sucks at the game of hockey. - Phillywhiteout
Torts gets off on guys telling him to (frank) off. It can't just be that.
Tony must have actually done something. Was late to or missed a team meeting, disrespected a trainer/staff member, got into it with a teammate, etc. |

Each player will develop different as well. no need to rush.

Don't skimp on those NTC either. - Pelle31Forever

What happens if he then has a bad camp like York, NAK, and others gets sent down? Having a vet around to push them isnt a bad thing. Then call them back up.
Now I go in another direction not BL.

I don't think much was needed, other than agreeing that it's the direction they want to go. - bmeltzer
I don’t think many see the irony in wasting so much energy in complaining about Keith Jones “second job” when a really solid deal like this was able to happen. |

i don't think that would be the best development path for each player. and you didn't answer the question. i wouldn't or don't think tyson should be getting 4th line minutes. and injuries will happen, especially if allison and tanner are still on this team. if they earn it, so be it. someone can take the 13th spot. - Peter Richards
Each player is an individual case. The situation has to make sense for the player. There should be open spots for competition. No reason to re-sign a 4th line scrub like Lemieux. |

Should it go to another "younger" scrub like Tanner? Offer a solution and a plan for how you would have your 4th line look.
so signing BL on a 1 year 1 million deal indicates there isn't an open spot?

A poster talking about me personally rather than the actual subject matter is part of the context of the discussion? LMAO.
All questions were answered sufficiently. |

He's a 4th line scrub. Flyers have enough of them and need to have open roster spots for younger players. - MJL
Ant there is a mass outcry here when a younger "talent" is playing 4th line minutes. |

Regarding J.Cates, I see that capfriendly has him as a group 6 UFA this offseason. Not sure if he re-signs. I remember that he improved tremendously last offseason, if he has another growth spurt in his game, maybe it makes sense. He would be a good fit. First of all, his brother is a Flyers, and secondly, he probably tops out as a 4C. He will be 26 this fall so I don’t think a role with reduced minutes is bad if he is already hit his ceiling.
