Hope you are right. I don't want Debrincat in Detroit. He's not worth the assets to trade for or the salary he will want for what he brings. For the same amount of money he will want, you can pay 2 or 3 20 goal scorers that will bring more to the team than what he does and have much better balanced scoring. - dcz28
He’s for sure worth the assets to trade for but the salary is high, unless the extension is around or under 8ish..which is reasonable for a guy that knows how to score.
The guy hit almost as many posts this year as goals.
I personally want to keep him as I expect him to kill it with a healthy Norris and a second season with the team under his belt. |

I waffle from day to day. Areyou better off with a guy who might give you 40 goals or a guy who can give you 20 plus goals and still leave you another $3m or $4m to add to your goalie budget.
Not sure how it finished off but near the end of the season the Sens were leading the league in the number of players having score 20 or more goals. If the Sens trade off DiBrincat and are able to cut goals against...maybe that is the right decision.

This is a great opinion. You know that Ottawa fans are really into this team when they are able to balance the different points of view that might dictate the best choice of an outcome.
We are told by Dorion the Sens will be spending to the Cap this year. So we know if they move DeBincat they already have an idea how the money will be spent.
I don't think what they are able to get directly in a DeBrincat trade is nearly as important as what they are able to accomplish by way of a final roster.
For example, I would do the deal if you could flip the assets and add Pierre Luc Dubois. But, I would not do the deal if it was to filp assets for a goalie wanting $10m on a long term deal.

Play Debrincat with Stutzle and Giroux. Move Tkachuk to play with Norris. Debrincat should get back to 40+ goals a year pace with 2 dynamic playmakers. |

Report coming out that Hellebuyck not interested in an extension.
We know the jets don’t wanna rebuild but you don’t have a choice if that guy wants out.
Should be a fun summer with all the names popping up |

To me, I don’t see any reason in getting PLD because he’s constantly hinted that he wants to be a Hab.
More importantly, I find Debrincat’s ceiling much higher.
I keep going back to the Duchene deal, where Matt first got traded here and was underwhelming. Then the next season he was a beast.
I know for Debrincat he got a full season and Matt only got to work with the team after the deadline in his first season with the Sens..but I can’t help but feel Cat is gonna go off with the team this season.
I personally would love for him to stay with this group for the long term. If the Sens could get him at 8 or lower..you do it.
Anything in the 9s…let alone 8.5 or higher, you look to recoup and target other areas of need if possible.

The bidding on the Sens is a quick study on the incredible diversity of this fabulous country. Most of the bidders have a strong family history grounded in Canadian immigration and dedication to building something successful.
Bratty and the Remington Group are of Italian heritage and one of the best known and successful real estate development companies in Canada. Their partnership with actor Ryan Reynold really made the early stages of the bidding exciting.
Nico Sparks led a bid involving multiple performers who were trying to establish the first black NHL ownership group.
The Kimel bid involves a family of Polish Jews that escaped the Nazi invasion coming to Canada to build their family fortune.
Astopostoulos are Greeks who bought broken and run down properties and turned them into successful real estate investments. Now building a major gambling destination in Durham.
Andlauer was born in France raised in Montreal by a single mother. His wealth generation in the thetransprtation industry was directly the result of his own ingenuity and enterprise.
Andlauer appears to be the winning bidder as of this morning.
I am proud of them all. And, I think most Sens fans have been outstanding in their patience. Better to take your time a get it right. |

My whole premise for the goalie trade is that I don't believe Forsberg will be ready to start the season and he will not approach his previous levels as a goalie after having both knees operated on. A stop-gap goalie is not enough for a team with playoff ambitions. - OttawaB
I think you’re probably right about Forsberg, but I think brining in an overpaid bad goalie with term will only make things worse. |

In keeping with that theme....I think that Helly at one year is worth more than Debrinicat at one year. I'd rather have the right goalie, if for only one year....

Laughton and Hart for Debrincat? - HenryHockey
No, thanks. What is Cat supposed to do for a team in sell mode other than cost a lot?
Philly is 3 years out before they need to add on any quality players like Cat. |

I think this is the right answer for multiple teams.
If they are interested in DeBrincat it is only as the 3rd guy where they are given the opportunity to load up on picks and prospects.

I would not hesitate to do DeBrincat straight up in any 3 way where the Sens end up with Pierre Luc Dubois.
Would I be happy if the Sens did a 3 way involving DeBrincat where they end up with Carter Hart and Laughton? Probably not. I don't trust Dorion when it comes to trading for a "supposedly" elite goaltender.
Sens must play better team D. Most of us are confident they will do so this year.
I am content if the Sens start the season with a solid journeyman as their starting goalie. Maybe they could get Gus back. Gus is a great example of an adequate goalie who gets a chance to backstop a team that plays a solid and responible team D.
Dallas has a world class goalie that struggled in the playoffs. It was the team D that broke down for Dallas. Vegas, on the other hand, has made a journeyman goaltender look like Patrick Roy in 93. |

Great blog.
Well done.
Pretty sure Forsberg didn't require surgery on his knees.
Rest and rehab. He should be ok.
I don't know what to do with DeBrincat. I kinda want to keep him because I think he is an excellent goal scorer. I just wish he wouldn't cost so much.
Greedy girls and the ncc are on the verge of having nobody buy this team. |

Don't worry about girl's and NCC. Auction negotiations on the sale of a business often look exactly like this in the final stages. But, you don't have a breathless sports media that does not understand the process reporting every guy who drops out. Bidders are dropping out because it is the right business decision for them. In the end it appears that the favourite right from the beginning is now in the best position to win.
It sounds a little empty to me when one group claims they pulled out because the trustees representing Melnyk sisters wanted assurances that they would not be diluted by a cash call. This is not the least bit unreasonable.
My guess is these final drop outs are directly the result of their realization they will not have the winning bid. |

Agreed - something like a OTT-PHI-DET deal built around DeBrincat, Hart/Laughton, and the 17th overall pick in 2023 plus another Red Wings prospect (plus additional picks etc. to balance it out) would make a great deal of sense for all teams involved. |

Hart, Laughton, Konecky
For
Debrincat (signed) and some 2 to 3 player combo involving Formenton, Thomson, Boucher, Joseph and Mandolese.
IF I'm dealing with Detroit, I would love to pry Lucas Raymond of out of them, so maybe throw in some combo of Thomson/Boucher/Formenton to make that happen. But that is a pipe dream.
Maybe Zadina, Kubalik involved in the deal?
I don't think Debrincat gets us a goalie. I think that is a separate deal.
Need the Stanley Cup to end so the real fun can begin...!

As a beer league goalie who has had the same injury on both knees (not at the same time!) many years ago, the recovery time isn't all that bad and there should be no issues going forward. |

No way Lucas Raymond is traded unless one of Stutzle, Tkachuk, Sanderson or possssibly a Chabot or Batherson but doubt that moves the needle |

Garrioch on the need to close on the sale of the Ottawa Senators:
https://www.tsn.ca/radio/...the-finish-line-1.1972207 - SensFan25
The losing bidders in the sale process squawk the news to a hungry media that does not understand how a bid offer process works. So, Andlaeur finally emerges as the favourite to buy the team. He has always been the favourite and he has stared down all the other bidders (although the Kimmel's supposedly have taken on a new partner and want another shot).
Look all the guys who dropped out did so because they did not have the financial means or the desire to push through and do the financial deal. The post game chatter adds up to a big steaming pile of horse poo. Same as the Leaf fans and media wanting to blame the loss on the officials missing a penalty call. Once the deal is done, folks will magically forget all the birthing pain. It is always the same. |

I don't know. But, I was a bit spooked to hear a Montreal reporter inject the name of Pierre McGuire in connection to the Andleaur bid. |
