Sens have to be realistic. At best DeBrincat was the Sens 4th best forward last year and with Norris returning this year there is a good chance he drops to 5th in scoring. More important his defensive game is weak.
- spatso
Ottawa has enough high end talent for the power play so there should not be a huge drop-off with Debrincat gone. In terms of 5 on 5, Debrincat did not drive play and needed better linemates to generate offense - his +- was not good. Had he played with Stutzle we would know his ceiling on this team at 5 on 5. As it stands, his salary dollars are better spent on 2 forwards that can play on 2nd line.

I’ll take a 1st and a solid LW to play with Pinto and Joseph on 3rd line
Go hard after Tofolli to play with Norris and Bath
Maybe dangle 2024 1st and Thomson 🤷♂️
Then ya have roughly 10million to pump up 4th line which I would just throw Grieg Kastelic Sokolov as of now there
And get a solid goalie 💪
Tkachuk Stutzle Giroux
Tofolli Norris Batherson
Kubalik Pinto Joseph
Grieg Kastelic Sokolov
Chabot Chychrun
Sanderson Zub
JBD Hammonic
Reimer ( just thinking outside box career .911)

So many good options available to Sens. I would like a bigger body and bit more veteran presence. Toffoli and Tarasenko would be great on short term deals (even one year is good). Next summer there will be many UFAs and many teams struggling to fit their own players under the cap. Be nice to hit next summer with free cap space. - spatso
I didn't think Alex DeBrincat was weak defensively. In fact I saw many times he would backcheck and he was great at takeaways (3rd on the team). Yes he didn't play a lick of SH time which I agree, he is not a defensive specialist by any means.
Again if I was to draw up a fair trade (in terms of value) and contract WITH DET, the least offer I would accept is:
To DET: Alex DeBrincat (8 x 8.25M)
To OTT: 2023 1st (17th pick) 2023 2nd (43rd pick) Jonatan Berggren (33rd pick 2018)
Then you could use those picks (possibly Formenton) to go after Hart + a forward on Philly |

sens4life1971 - reimer is an interesting name to bring up. In a good year, he can be quite solid, but he would need forsberg + soogard to play 32-40 games. Also it is a short term solution to the goalie problem, and the assumption is that a young goalie becomes #1. I'm not sure if Sogaard or Merilainen are even close to that |

To Ottawa
F Travis Konecny
G Carter Hart
To Philadelphia
Tyler Boucher (2021 10th pick)
2023 1st (25th pick)
2023 1st (29th pick)

Don’t want Konecny we need to get size not another small winger and I get he can put up pts and played with Giroux
Plus I’m not a fan of Hart either
Rather put a package together and get Tofolli
And get picks and a good size winger who can chip in on pts to play with Pinto for Debrincat 🤷♂️
Maybe something like
Calgary:
2024 1st
Brannstrom
Sokolov
Ottawa:
Tofolli
3rd pick
Then
Detroit:
Debrincat
Ottawa:
NYI 17th pick
Kubalik

Swap out that 3rd rd pick coming back our way with Vladar and I'm okay with all of it. I'd be okay with including any combo of Brannstrom, Boucher, Thomson, Formenton, Sokoloff, etc going back in a deal that nets us Hart or Vladar or Swayman etc |

Not for the Wings it wouldn't. I would rather keep Kubalik who is bigger and better defensively for 2.5 mil for only 21 points less and keep the 17th overall pick and either draft a really good prospect or use it to get a player they actually need and a better fit.
I wish this Debrincat to Detroit crap would die already or that he gets traded somewhere else. If it's not Debrincat, it's some Calgary fans thinking they can get the 17th for Toffoli and Vladar or the 9th overall for Lindholm. Lindholm would make more sense to trade for but not for the 9th overall and he would have to be open to signing a new deal for a reasonable cap hit and term. |

If I'm any GM trading for any player a year away from RFA/UFA, I'm not doing so unless there is a deal agreed upon for an extension. Otherwise, what is the point?
And if I'm any player, I'm waiting until next year when the cap rises by $3 to 4 mill to sign any deal. And it think the players who are going to be UFAs and RFAs have been told by their agents to wait at all costs. They want to drive the market up across the board. |

I get your frustration with the DeBrincat rumors, get it you don't want AD
But c'mon man. Lindholm and DeBrincat have both scored 40 goals and are stars. Again, how many players in the entire red wings organization have scored 40? (or will?). DeBrincat is not a 60-70 point player. He's closer to a 80 point player and a 30-35 goal scorer. Don't use last season stats. He had a bad year adjusting to a new team and new line mates. With that said, I get why you don't want him, and let's be honest, it's $$. If he was signed long term around 7m everyone in the league would be calling PD looking to move a lot |

Lindholm like i said makes more sense because he is a center (something they need) but he has 1 year left, likely wants a huge raise long term contract and is turning 29 years old in December. To me that isn't worth the 9th overall pick in this draft. I would have no problem giving the 9th overall plus more for lets say Elias Pettersson. Fills a need and is in the right age range to be productive for the length of a long term contract.
Honestly i think the only reason Debrincat ever scored 40 goals was because of Kane and if your team doesn't have that type of elite playmaker, you will be paying Debrincat for something he won't be able to produce. Do you really think Debrincat would score 40 goals with Copp as his center? Or even Larkin? I think not. I think he would be lucky to score 30 with the Wings.
I'm not against trading 1st round picks but they have to be for the right players that fit a big need, is the right age for the Wings and can be signed or is signed to a good contract not an overpay. Wings have too many holes after moving Bertuzzi, Hronek and Vrana that 1 player isn't going to make them a contender when with them they still needed a top center and a power forward along with some defense prospects to hit like Edvinsson and Wallinder or Johansson on the left side of the defense. |

I agree (1) better/justifiable to pay more $ to center than winger
(2) Patrick Kane had a huge part of DeBrincat's success. I think the chemistry was undeniable. At the same I agree - with Copp, no he's not scoring 40. But remember 1 key thing - Josh Norris (almost 40 goals and 70 points himself when healthy) was hurt all year. If he plays with DeBrincat, or even slots with Brady and STUTZLE goes down with DeBrincat, if they find chemistry, he's scoring at least 38-40 goals in a full season; there's no doubt. Stutzle is not Patrick Kane but is close in terms of raw talent. I think Larkin and Norris are comparable and c'mon, you don't think DeBrincat can score 35 goals with a center that has put up 47 assists twice?
I do think DeBrincat's contract situation is what's fudging things up right now. That and his height possibly, I'm not sure. Otherwise, he is a dangerous player to have, it's just a matter of price. If he could sign a contract similar to Norris, I would want him on my team. |

Despite the number of assists Larkin put up, no i think Debrincat would be lucky to hit 30 goals playing with him. The only player to do that was Bertuzzi once and they had really good chemistry and had been playing together for 3 years prior to him doing it but never scoring more than 21 goals before that.
Larkin is a good player but not a playmaker despite his assist numbers. He has more of a mentality to shoot not pass. Like i said before, Berggren right now is the best passer/playmaker the Wings have at forward even though he had more goals this season than assists. Some of that is because he played with guys that couldn't finish on the 4th line.
You could make a case for Perron but he also likes to shoot a lot. Kubalik is a shooter. Raymond more of a shooter too. Wings have a lot of shooters but very few good setup guys to set up those shooters. Adding Debrincat doesn't help that, it just gives them another shooter without a setup guy.
I was kind of hoping the Wings would be able to draft Carlsson in this draft but that isn't happening unless Yzerman trades up into the top 3. I won't hold my breath for that to happen. Next best playmaker or better but not a center is probably Benson. Not sure if he will be there at 9th or not but i kind of hope he will and they take him. They need a top playmaker on this roster of shooters. They need someone that will elevate the game of players on his line and that is not Debrincat in my opinion.
Debrincat and the rumored salary and contract he will want, his size and lack of defense and one dimensional play as a shooter are all issues...at least for a team like Detroit the way they are currently built. For some teams he would fit in fine if they have that playmaker and already have plenty of size up front and guys that can cover defensively for him but that is not Detroit. This some of the reasons i am so against Debrincat to Detroit. |

One can hope.
Only issue with NSH is other than Saros, and all the defensemen they have signed, they don't have a lot of roster players that interest me for the Sens. Sens have enough D right now. Saros for Debrincat might make sense straight up, but Sissons is the only forward on their roster that interests me.
They have enought cap space as of right now, so maybe Debrincat for a 1st and 3rd?

Evangelista, Tomasino, Parssinen are all quite promising and NHL-ready young pieces up front. Any one or combination of those plus Saros would be solid IMO, but Saros' value is at an all time high, suspect he alone might be worth Debrincat. Shortest starter in the NHL but his stat line is remarkable, especially for his consistency, and he's only 28. 7 straight years playing 20+ games and never dipping below .914 or exceeding a 2.88 GA - those are future HoF numbers. Top 20 goalies in terms of games played over the past 5 years - Saros is tied in 1st with Vasy and Ullmark for save %, fourth lowest GAS, third youngest in age. All on a middling Nashville team. He's legit and I'd love to see him in a Sens jersey, but what's the cost, and do Nashville even want to move him? Askarov acquitted well in the AHL last year, but he's 20 and could use another year in the minors. Really depends on Trotz's approach to a rebuild or retweak. |

Boston just dumped a ton of cap space on the Hawks. Makes me wonder if they are resigning Bertuzzi and Swayman, maybe getting Hanafin from Calgary.

Jarvis has some fairly strong moves and a good shot. He was getting some #1 power play time during the playoffs. I would be surprised if Carolina would want to include him a package for DeBrincat.

#17,Zadina, and a2nd or Boston's 2024 1st for the Cat
According to the source, for the trade to happen, the deal is contingent on two things. “One being that a certain unknown prospect must be available for Ottawa to pick at 17, and the second being that an extension has to be agreed upon with DeBrincat, which shouldn’t be terribly hard to accomplish because Detroit is on his list of desired cities to play in.”
