Sabres are in a very good situation right know, with the Young Core growing as it has. And with the mention of Dahlin's contract you have the basic numbers of your Cap situation with a lot of your core locked up. Evaluation will be of the upmost importance over the next few years. Could really turn themselves into a Juggernaut with the right decisions and moves.

When it counted:

Feb: 2-3-0 .858 5.03
March: 1-3-2 .879 3.88

Mark Sanchez has a winning record as a starting QB.

That is all.

If it was that easy, why did they never get that D man to play with there #1 overall pick a few years before Power.
- Buff36

My guess, they wanted to see if Joker could sink or swim. No different than giving Mittelstadt every opportunity in the world to make something of himself.

Casey did, Joker proved that he is more ideally situated in a third pairing role.

Everything we’ve heard this offseason suggests management knows that as well, so I really don’t see how they don’t make an addition this offseason.

Goalie and a top 4 d-man and everything falls into place.

Not sure I’d count those.

Early returns on drafting looks good. But there will be someone who just doesn’t fit what they’re looking for and it will be telling what route they take with them.

I think Savoie quite possibly could be in that camp in 1-2 years from now.

Not saying he’s going to be a bust but he might be a Drouin for Sergachev type of trade candidate

- sbroads24

Yeah i definitely don't rule that out, for any of the big 4 really.

2 thoughts in regards to upl.

Highly touted long time franchise prospect , still young by nhl goalie standards.

Just win. Literally, play clutch in games when it counts. Upl's shown some of this. Winning %

Just opinions.....

The Sabres employed the oldest NHL goaltender for two seasons. It would be on-brand to employ the youngest tandem in the league. I think it would be an enormous mistake but I could definitely envision them doing it

Why haven’t they found one yet ?

We’ve gotten Comrie, Lyubushkin, Hinostroza, Bjork (trade) etc.

Where are these diamonds?

It’s super cool to say we have these cap savings and these smart FO people with a huge analytics department. How about they make something of it?

Lol.
You would have botched at God for taking 6 days too I am quite sure.

- Michael Ghofrani

Maybe, think they told us the plan: UPL in Roch last year then backup in Buffalo next year, Levi in Roch for a year. UPL got forced into a role they didn't think he is ready for, now Levi is pushing him earlier than expected.

Alternatively, entirely possible UPL was just inherited and wasn't really part of their plans all a long.

I would come out of retirement and write 30 days straight about how unserious the org is if its the exact same 3 goalies next year.

From what's been mentioned, I believe this is more likely. I'd be shocked if he were on the Sabres next year.

Maybe then people shouldn’t say it’s super easy to find player x when the Sabres have been searching for player x for about 4 years now.

But continue just using the most obscure references to prove a point that you’re not actually proving.

Huh?

They’ve been in charge here for 3 offseasons. What “diamonds” have they found so far?

How many other prospects have done what Quinn, Peterka, and Kulich have done in the AHL at their given points of development and busted?

What have you seen from Quinn and Peterka from day 1 this year right up to the end of the world championships that gives you doubts that either of them can’t fill a top 6 winger role ?

The Peterka-Cozens-Quinn line nearly carried them to the playoffs with their play in March. On the season, they ranked 26th in all of hockey in terms of xGoals% at 54.2% with a minimum of 250 minutes played as a line.

How many players have put up back to back 90+ point seasons in the WHL like Savoie has and busted ? Perhaps a couple, but the odds favour him becoming an impact NHL’er even if he has to go back for his D+2 season and physically mature.

Isak Rosen, also a player that needs to add weight, but was very good down the stretch. A player that can end up in your middle 6 that is good at even strength that can be a weapon on the PP on a cheap deal is underrated.

Krebs did exactly what you could have asked from him in his role, give him better offensive line mates, then you’ll see the points come.

- Swedish_Jesus

Let's see how that ages in a year. Quinn is the one who had some consistency at the NHL level last year, but there are no sure things with development. Mitts had some initial success, but it took him a long time. Long list of Sabres recently who never took the next step.

I would as well, if Levi is a lock in Buffalo. He's clearly their focus and they should get him the right partner.

I thought the same about Dahlin and Power, so maybe I'm the crazy one and it's always easier just not to make a move.

The Sabres had what 3 straight AHL rookie of the year award winners…..Ennis, Gerbe, Adam. 4 if you count Conacher.

Tyler Myers had an astronomical rookie NHL year.

I can continue a list of players who looked promising but fell flat.

I think Quinn is a sure thing excellent player.

I think JJ is a sure thing NHL’er, probably top 9

Outside of that there’s absolutely no sure thing

That's about where I'm at too. Kulich's season makes him likely, imo.

A few middle 6 hits from the latest crop would be nice, but what would be great is if someone turned into a true first line guy.

I'd say my GM will take a swing.

Sorry man, I'm done caring about Rochester Amerks games in April. I don't care who's available at 13.

Make the damn playoffs. Take a swing. It's year 13

I earnestly believe that this drought has warped some fans into caring more about what our list of prospects looks like, or our cap space, more than they do about actually winning hockey games because winning hockey games is so far into the distant past.

It’s becoming a joke to me.

All these vibes are going to hell real quick if they don’t make the playoffs next year and oh it is far from a guarantee they do
