The Sabres already have Tage, Tuch, Skinner, Cozens, Quinn, Peterka.
They need at most a bottom 6 energy forward, top 4 d, and a goalie.
All of which can be acquired without giving up a Quinn, Peterka, Kulich, Savoie, or 13th overall.
I’ve given you a dozen examples in my last two posts proving that - Swedish_Jesus
If the assumption is that the above group is enough to win then yeah thats probably true.
However, it would be the first time, well, ever that its worked out that way in the cap era.
That a team was built entirely off the back of moves they made as a seller and through their draft picks.
Even the Avs traded guys like helleson, Barron, Jost, first round picks to round out their roster. |

this is assuming all 6 of those stay healthy
tage, skinner, and tuch play close to their career year production
peterka and quinn take big steps
cozens continues to improve
and the coach plays that second line more minutes for 5 on 5

pay the (frank)ing price for the right (frank)ing player and move the (frank) on already.
newsflash, he's not here, at the very least not the version that we need this season. - TheSabresTaco
are you talking about a goalie
a d man
or a middle 6 winger?
or a coach
or a team president |

After Josh spoke, I think Diggs' holdout is because the team doesn't utilize him to the best of their abilities. And he's holding out until they have a more defined plan for him. There were times this season that Diggs was being poorly utilized by one of if not both of Josh Allen and Ken Dorsey. |

Chandler Stephenson for a 5th round pick.
Brett Howden for a 4th round pick.
Stone for Brannstrom and a 2nd rounder.
Marchessault, Smith, Theodore, Karlsson, McNabb for free.
They spent more in acquiring Pacioretty and then dumping Pacioretty than they did on building the meat of a Stanley Cup winning core. - Swedish_Jesus
Well yes, the "free" players were from the expansion draft. Stone forced his way to Vegas and thus Ottawa gotnothing for him. The fact that they had to pay someone to take Pacciorety in order to get the next shiny toy (Pietrangelo, on a contract that isn't good now and won't age well).
Yes, absolutely, if they win the cup then there are no apologies. But lets not pretend that the "lets get the next shiny toy" approach won them a championship. They made some sneaky good moves (Stephenson panning out the way he did) and got a coach that convinced them to play D. And they got their version of Comrie to play extremely well. |

No, but we shouldn’t have to trade top prospects or the 13th overall selection to fill out your roster either. - Swedish_Jesus

Framing a player wanting to play for your team as some sort of negative is some wild mental gymnastics here.
Can we please get someone good to force their way here? |

Avs drafted: Rantenen, Mackinnon, Makar, Landeskog, Byram, Johnson, Newhook.
Nichuskin was a free agent.
Toews costed two second round picks.
Manson costed Helleson and a second rounder.
They traded the first rounder for Kuemper, so I’ll meet you there. |

Haven’t we been preaching “wanting to be here” as some sort of groundbreaking new way to build a team for like the last two years? |

By that logic, them painting the locker room the color that it is got them a championship. They foolishly chased stars over the years, many of whom are not on the team right now.
I am not taking anything away from them. I just fundamentally disagree that the "lets get better today" approach won them a cup.
