They got lucky.
Their conference was weak.
They have several contracts that are going to be bad soon.
They've made multiple bad moves.
They're terrible at asset management.
Did I cover all the disclaimers...? |

At least we're all in agreement on what should be done. I enjoy it when we can find consensus. |

This spiraled way out of control from where it began. This all began with me rejecting the idea that Vegas (or any team) will win if they "just get better right now". That's the George Steinbrenner approach of the 80's.
And just because some guy said that it happened that way, doesn't make it true. |

Avs drafted: Rantenen, Mackinnon, Makar, Landeskog, Byram, Johnson, Newhook.
Nichuskin was a free agent.
Toews costed two second round picks.
Manson costed Helleson and a second rounder.
They traded the first rounder for Kuemper, so I’ll meet you there. - Swedish_Jesus

Like St Louis it'll get them their first one. But couple years later they're no where to be seen.
Its great to win 1. To be a Chicago or a Tampa, you have to draft and develop

Cool I hope the Sabres sell their soul to win one.
We’ve now gone from this team doesn’t want to be a playoff contender they want to be a cup contender to now they need to be a team that can win multiple cups
Talk about keep kicking the can down the road |

Helleson was a legit good prospect. They also moved Barron in the deal to get lehkonen. - Michael Ghofrani
Barron is a guy I’d loop into the same caliber of prospect as the guys we are trying to trade every day on Hockeybuzz.
I forgot he was apart of the Lehkonen deal.
Good point.

Young RHD former 1st rounder, traded at an age younger than Rosen IIRC. I mean obviously you dont have to sell the farm blind, but its pretty clear at some point you have to make some tough calls and move some guys you'd probably rather keep in a perfect world (which the NHL is most definitely is not). |

Barrie and Kerfoot and a 6th for Kadri, Rosen, and a third.
I’m all for moving Joker instead of one of our stud prospects or a first rounder.
Joker, Philly’s second rounder, either of our 2nd rounders the next couple of years.
Have at it |

No, this statement is actually about you needing to make sweeping statements about things that nobody has said.
For every team that sells their soul to win one, there are dozens of teams that don't win any. I don't think that St. Louis did that but you can see a ton of examples of teams that did and got nothing. The better approach is draft, develop and then make smart trades (as Colorado and Tampa did).

Where was Peyton Krebs in terms of prospect rankings again?
Seems like a pretty bold move….. |

So what you’re saying is it’s kind of a pain in the ass when people make general sweeping statements about nothing you actually said.
Hmmm sounds familiar. |

Sabres have the Assets to go big and all it would do is put a scratch in there system. Sabres have a very young team, and most are locked up or will be long term. Some of are Good prospects will never see the ice for the Sabres. It's really a numbers thing. |

What is going to happen next year that Vegas won’t be top 5 in betting odds to contend for the cup?
They didn’t sell their soul. They defined a specific window and capitalized on it |

Yeah I mean if I’m trading for Jack Eichel or Matthew Tkachuk I’d be more than happy to move 13th OA or our top prospects…..
I’m just looking for a top 4 d-man here not a top 10 player in the league

I think they would if the right player came around. I didn't love the idea of that guy being Debrincat, I was a bit better with Meier. I think the cap hit (real or projected) is what matters most. That's what made Chicken man so attractive.

Yea…. So like find a really really great player and move the pieces for him.
You have an entire prospect train coming.
13OA, Ostlund, Mitts and UPL add whatever for a Tkachuk type player sounds pretty good to me.
You don’t have the places for all of them starting next year.

Seriously, who gives a single flying fück? They have a Cup. It's like saying "pshh no, I will not have sex with that 9, because if I play my cards right a 10 will fall into my lap" |

No its great for them. I'd rather be successful long term than mortgaging the future to win now. Especially when winning now is not guaranteed. They could easily be tied this finals.
If successful this draft and develop method should make us a contender for a longer period than just trading everything away for CH and a Tkachuk type. |
