Call it what you want, he gets a failing grade in goal for his tenure so far. Whatever he's planned on has failed from day 1 of giving Ullmark a 1 year deal. Hopefully Levi starts to turn that page and he makes a move for a better partner.
Also can't give KA a pass on players rejecting trades. Eichel's injury was on his watch. - Lunaion

I dont want to see Donnie go down with the UPL ship - Hank Balling
I really don't either and UPL has things to work on. But he was basically thrown to the Wolves. Sabres basically played run and gun for 70 games. I would like to see a Vet brought in, but also think if they tighten there whatever system up and added a legit Top 3 Dman would go along way in helping if it is UPL or any Goalie for that matter. |

How much different does last season look like if you trade a 3rd for Hill instead of going with Anderson/Comrie?

I'd feel comfortable with UPL backing up a proven #1. That's not the situation here, so you need to make a change.

Wasnt Hill's sample size last year basically the same as Comrie's? Idk that their odds of success here would be any different. Thats the thing about these fringe goalies. You're throwing darts blindfolded. You're a genius if it works, a moron if it doesn't. Neither statement is true in either case lol. |

100% right.
Comrie came off a year where he had 20 starts and a .920%
They work or they don’t.
At least they haven’t tied multiple years and cap space to a wrong goaltending decision though.

Hill's played a lot more games in the NHL and put up strong numbers pretty much every season. I think his odds were higher. Think I said the same a year ago, but easy to say with hindsight.
Taking a shot on Comrie doesn't really bother me. It's Comrie + Anderson that does.

yeah i was very critical of this. If youre not sure he can play more than once every 10 days, there's no value in re-signing him early to avoid missing out on a starter because in fact you have. |

It's the same thing for sure. I'm not a Hill believer though.
I'm done with the small sample size Hutton/Comrie/Hill guys |

The advance stats, which take all of that crap out of the equation. All say that in all facets of the game, UPL was one of the worst goalies in the NHL.
The issue is the Sabres styles play is all about creating offense a lot of the times at the expense of the defense.
So you have three choices.
A change the entire system that allowed the Sabres to be one of the best offenses in the league
B hope UPL figured it out
C go out and try to find an upgrade |

Im over it in the interim, for various reasons. I dont mind revisiting it after theyve done the thing where they make the playoffs, trades else where, spent to the cap etc.
At that point your 1B almost has to be these sort of small sample high risk/reward guys. But cross that bridge when we (hopefully) get there. |

Draft some goalies. It's stupid to be forced to go that route after a 15 year rebuild.

It's a nothing ventured, nothing gained scenario. You can't say they lost because they didn't really risk anything (other than another lost season). They also didn't really identify someone who would actually help, but instead they simply took a shot in the dark on a cheap guy who had some potential based on limited numbers. |

I don't think they have to change there whole system to play better overall team defense. Plus if your system is working you can create offense of it. |
