Goaltending is as reliable as the roulette table at the Bellagio.

Even Hellebuyck got outplayed by his former backup in the first round of the playoffs.

It’s a total crapshoot.

Comrie sure as hell didn’t work out, but imagine being stuck with one of the contracts above ?

I don't have to imagine being stuck with Ben bishops contract. Reality sucks more than fiction sometimes.

Checks notes. Still has 3 cups.

If by 2014 you mean 2022 with his sub 2.6 GAA and .910 sv % then yes 2014.

Yeah, the second ring came in 2014.

No idea what that has to do with him sucking wind on the contract I bright to your attention, but all the power to you.

He’s been a replacement level goaltender for nearly a decade playing behind a defensive juggernaut.

Honest question for you- no sarcasm no arguments

Aren’t you tired of talking about cap hits and mock drafts and future rosters?

Don’t you wanna talk about who we’re slotted to play in round 2 of the postseason? Or who can we get to put us over the top?

Isn’t this all becoming so boring?

When you get a UFA G for 1.8m, you shouldn't expect much better than what you got.

Drafting well leads to sustainable success, mock drafts will always be important no matter where you sit in the standings.

Until the NHL shifts from a Hard Cap, how much your roster players make will always be important. You need to build the best 23 man roster possible and fit it under the Cap.

The Sabres have a strong outlook for the next 7 years and it’s fun to project the future.

I think everyone gets caught up in “one or two moves can put you over the top” but forgets that “one or two wrong moves can frank it up too”.

Does this roster have holes ? Yes.

Does the roster have anything impeding it from getting to the promise land ? No.

Was Comrie the right answer in goal ? No.

It’s sure as hell better than having Jack Campbell on the books for the next 4 years @5M per.

We are going to go from “we have so much cap space” to “how do we create cap space” very quickly.

Jesus we are already looking to get out of Olofsson’s deal, good thing we didn’t go long term there amirite ?

Adin Hill made $375K more than Comrie did this year.

The front office’s line of thinking was right, they bet on the wrong horse though.

Back to back Stanley Cup champs now with goalies on expiring deals.

Giving term and $$$ to goalies is as risky as giving term and $$$$ to an NFL running back.

There are very few that ever live up to the ticket price.

Mine does too. 1.8m on the UFA market gets you a backup. Closest thing to a starter in that price range is Phoenix Copley.

If you want to gamble in a bin below Carter Hutton, you deserve what you get.

Disagree to some extent.
Sure, trade a couple of non-top assets to round out a deal, that is fine.
Having a fruitful pipeline to replace assets that are becoming g too expensive is key to keeping that window wide open for longer.
Guys like Mitts may need to be traded away before giving him a long-term expensive contracttrade high and fill another position of need where the pipeline doesn't have a replacement at the ready.

- IonSabres

Yes it is fruitful. But when you have a core that is basically 25 and younger some of those good prospects aren't gonna see the ice. Where do they fit, you can't have them waiting for 4 or 5yrs, that's bad asset management.

Casey is a perfect case in point. He is now a decent player, use him this season to further build his value, then trade at the TDL and plug in the next guy. Olofsson is the same, but trade him now and let another youngin come in...then Okie next season, Girgensons this season as well. Skinner in 3 years time. Maybe Tuch as well, when his contract comes up (it is why I wouldn't mind getting But, or Sale, even the Buffalo kid). Lyubushkin next season with Johnson, maybe their newly acquired top 4 Dman if he has 2 years on a contract left.
No need to keep these expensive players if they have suitable replacements.

Keep rolling this roster. Keep drafting , but eventually that pool becomes weaker due to draft positions.

That doesn't mean no trades of prospects...just be smart on who to include.

That's kinda what I meant, Sabres can afford to use a couple good forward prospects to strengthen other area's. Sabres have a lot of prospects and they have a bunch more coming. I am just saying they can make a big trade if they choose to and survive it, they have the assets, especially with such a young team in place already.
